Turnitin
Turnitin is an originality checking and plagiarism prevention tool that enables checking of submitted written work for
improper citation or misappropriated content. Each Turnitin assignment is checked against other students' work, the
Internet and key resources selected by your Course Coordinator.
If you are instructed to submit your assessment via Turnitin, you will find the link to the submission on your Moodle
course site. You can find out more information on the Turnitin information site for students.
Viva Voce
Any student may be called upon to provide a viva voce (from the Latin meaning ‘living voice’) for any assignment. A
viva voce is an interview-style meeting where you will be asked to explain, discuss or use information related to any
assignment or work produced for this course. These can be used to ascertain knowledge and ability, including
whether you have undertaken the required reading and preparatory work, and can demonstrate understanding of what
you have written. Viva voces are used in conjunction with submitted assessment work, not instead of submitted work.
Late Submissions
If you submit your assessment after the due date, you will incur a penalty of 5% of the assessment mark per day that
the submission is late. No submissions will be accepted after five business days from the due date. You can read
more in the UNSW Assessment Implementation Procedure.
Extensions
You are expected to manage your time to meet assessment due dates. Extensions will only be granted to students
who have been awarded special consideration.
No extensions will be granted for weekly wikis or class participation.
Special Consideration
Special consideration is the process for assessing the impact of short-term events beyond your control (exceptional
circumstances) on your performance in a specific assessment task. Circumstances beyond your control are
exceptional circumstances or situations that may:
• Prevent you from completing a course requirement
• Stop you from submitting an assessment
• Significantly affect your assessment performance
Available here is a list of circumstances that may be beyond your control. This is only a list of examples; your exact
circumstances may not be listed.
You can find more details and the application form on the Special Consideration. You can apply for special
consideration via myUNSW (My Student Profile > Special Consideration.

Assessment 1: Individual Organisational Memo
Week 3: 1pm (AEST) Friday September 29
15%
Written organisational memo
750 words +/-10% plus reference list
Via Turnitin
Description of assessment task
Australia is currently experiencing a cost-of-living crisis, with the prices of essential goods climbing faster than wages.
Daily necessities, such as housing, food, and healthcare, are rapidly becoming more expensive, placing significant strain
on individuals and families in all socio-economic brackets.
You have recently begun work at a Sydney company, XCorp, and have quickly noticed that the cost-of-living crisis is
severely impacting your colleagues’ lives. As you are studying MGMT5050 at UNSW, you understand the impact of this
crisis in relation to several of the SDGs. You also know that employers have a duty of care towards their employees.
You mention these observations to your manager during a regular catchup. They agree that the cost-of-living crisis
increasingly impacts employee well-being at XCorp. Impressed by your insights they ask you to collate your thoughts
into an Organisational Memo outlining two innovative XCorp initiatives to support employees through this crisis. They
plan to table your suggestions at the next Senior Management Meeting. One reminder is the constraint of current
economic pressures mean that the company will not simply be able to raise salaries.
Memo Focus:
Your Organisational Memo should emphasise the following:
• A brief discussion of the effect of Australia's cost-of-living crisis on your colleagues.
• The relation of the crisis to employee well-being and how this impacts the company.
• How the crisis relates to the SDGs.
• Two initiatives to alleviate the crisis's impact on employees.
Instructions
1. Specify XCorp's industry (e.g., investment, marketing, banking) in the memo's introduction. Use this to tailor
your content accordingly.
2. Use only course materials and texts from weeks 1 and 2 of MGMT5050. No additional research is allowed.
3. Being able to write professionally in English is a core outcome of this course. As such, you may not write your
paper in one language and translate it. This will reflect as computer-generated work and be reported as a
violation of academic integrity.
MGMT 5050 – T3 2023 4
• Using QUILLBOT, Baidu Education, Chat GPT GrammarlyGO, BARD or any other generative AI is strictly
prohibited. Any use of AI as an editor must be cited.

• Disregard of workers’ rights
• Increasing emission of greenhouse gases and pollutants
• Tax avoidance
• Building a retail monopoly to the detriment of small businesses
• Lack of transparency around the collection and use of customer data
The objective of this assessment is to use the tools, concepts and skills covered in the course to analyse a
sustainability-related ethical issue within global retail giant Amazon and make recommendations to address it.
Assignment instructions
1. Choose one sustainability-related ethical issue at Amazon from the bulleted list above:
§ You may focus on the issue in Australia specifically or adopt a global perspective.
2. Conduct research:

catalogues, databases and collections.
These three articles must come from the following journals:

Decision Making Model template in your analysis and other course concepts, including ethical
framework(s) and stakeholder theory. You may include subsections to organise your analysis.
Recommendations

Assessment 3:
Active reflection: Parts A and B
Part A Wikis
Weekly each Monday of the following week by 1 pm (e.g., Week 1 Wiki due in Week 2 Monday 1pm) and
Compilation of 10 weeks of Wikis submitted in Week 11: 1pm (AEST) Monday November 20
20%
Weekly wiki entry
150 words weekly +/- 10% weekly final submission maximum 1650 words.
Weekly Via individual wiki on Moodle, then collated and submitted via Turnitin week 11
Description of assessment task
Reflection presents an opportunity to consolidate new knowledge, skills, and experiences. Throughout MGMT5050, you
will use the Moodle Wiki to enable your active reflection.
There are two parts to the Wiki task:
1. Weekly wiki
Each week, you will be given a prompt located in the Moodle book under “Course Slides and Weekly Wiki Questions”
that requires you to bring together that week’s course materials, content from the prelearning pack and your own
experiences into a 150-word wiki post. After week 2, your tutor will provide you with feedback to improve your wikis for
the rest of the course.
While your wiki posts will be personal, you must draw on at least one source from the week’s prelearning pack. You may
also use other sources, but this is not compulsory. Use the Harvard referencing style to acknowledge your source(s).
Given the personal nature of the task, you must not use any form of generative AI in the writing or editing of your
response.
Your weekly wiki pages are in your tutors’ online Learning in Practice space on Moodle.
2. Wiki compilation
At the end of the course, collate your weekly wiki posts into a single document for submission. Do not make any
changes to the original posts. Add a reference list at the end of the document and submit it via TurnitIn. You may only
load the transcript once.
Your TurnitIn score will be used as an integrity checker. Any sections with direct matches to public sources, poorly
referenced, or matching previous submissions will be reported for plagiarism.

Week 11: 1pm (AEST) Friday November 24
25%
Video taken without edits or slides
4-minute video +/- 10 Secs

Description of assessment task
The objective of Assignment 3B is to consolidate your MGMT5050 engagement and learning through the creation of a
reflective video.
In your video, provide an overview of your progress throughout MGMT5050, your personal growth in terms of ethics
and sustainability. Use the prompts below to guide your reflection:
1. Identify and describe one transformative experience from the course: Share a significant experience during
the course that profoundly influenced your perspective on ethics and sustainability. This could encompass
your engagement with course content, activities in S&I or LiP, or the prelearning materials.
2. Relate to course concepts: Connect this pivotal experience to specific concepts or theories introduced in the
course. Explain your understanding of these concepts and how they relate to your transformative experience.
3. Changes in thinking and behaviour: Discuss the evolution of your thoughts and behaviours because of this
specific experience. How have your attitudes and actions changed? What enduring insights will you carry
forward from this course?
4. Finally, reflect on the feedback you received on your memo and case study: Did you improve based on this
feedback? Why or why not? What do you now know about yourself as a learner that you didn’t know before?
Assignment 3B must be submitted in two parts:
Part 1:
• Make a video of 4 minutes +/- 10 seconds responding to the three points above.
• Film the video on your phone or computer in landscape mode.
• Ensure that you are professionally dressed and clearly visible and audible.
• You may not edit the video, use props, or slides.
• Submit the video on Moodle. You can load a link to YouTube or your OneDrive if that’s easier.
Part 2:
• Transcribe your video into text. Various transcription software is available online.
• Add any references you have used into the transcript and include a Reference list at the end.
• Submit the transcript to TurnitIn. You may only load the transcript once.
Submission instructions
Given that a core outcome of MGMT5050 is to indicate your ability to communicate effectively in English, the use of
generative AI such as QUILLBOT, Baidu Education, ChatGPT, GrammarlyGO, Bard, or any similar programme, is strictly
prohibited.
