Rationale This second assessment will help you develop a career plan to help guide you in
your journey as a student at university and as an employee or entrepreneur of
your own business after you complete your university studies. As the world
becomes increasingly global and competitive, the future of work is changing from
national focus to international focus. When a vacant position is advertised, it is
very common to compete for the position with candidates all around the world.
Therefore, being strategic and competitive in managing your career is imperative.
This second assessment will assist you to develop a plan to prepare for your
future career.
This assessment will give students the opportunity to reflect on their career and
develop an understanding of their overall career direction including their career
goals, values, anchors, career types, interests and preferences.

Purpose The aim of assessment task 2 is to enable students to build on
their knowledge and skills of SHRM theories and processes
about career management and employability through a reflection
approach. Students will have the opportunity to reflect on their
strengths and areas for development as it relates to their career
goals. This assessment will also help students to understand the
connections between theory and practice and develop practical
skills in developing and managing one's career in a competitive
and global world.

Task guide 1. You will produce a 1000 word business report with at least 10 academic peer-reviewed
sources. Your report will address the following:
2. Self-assessments: clarifying your values, work-style personality and lifestyle-trade off and
identifying your strengths and areas for development.
3. Creating career plan and goals to enhance career-related experiences before and after
graduation
4. Integration: consider the relationship between your self-assessment findings and your career
plan and goals. How do your strengths and preferences align with your career goals and
values? What knowledge and skills do you need to develop to help you to effectively pursue
your career goals?
5. Appendices: the appendices are included in the report but will not be part of the word count.
The appendices include evidence from your self-assessments (e.g. career management
competencies, values, work-style personality). You will also be required to submit your career
story canvas in the appendix.

Structure The report should have:

6. a minimum of 10 references
7. Appendices may be used as supporting material. Appendices must

(1) referenced in the text, and
(2) kept in order of their reference

Body The body of the report should have three parts:
1. PART 1 – career management competencies, values, anchors,
career types, interests, abilities and personality
2. Analyse your career management competencies, values, anchors,
career types, interests, abilities and personality
3. In your analysis, you should focus on similarities and differences
between your career management competencies, values, anchors,
career types, interests, abilities and personality
4. Analyse your strengths and areas for development.
5. You can focus on your career management competencies score.
Your highest score is your strength and your lower score is your area
of development.
6. You can also focus on your values, anchors, career types, interests,
abilities and personality if you think you are strong in these areas or
need improvement in one of these areas.
7. Use the STAR (Situation-Task-Action-Results) format to describe
your strengths or area for improvement

Body The body of the report should have three parts:
1. PART 2 – career goals, resources, obstacles and action plan
2. Outline your career goals.
3. You should use the SMART (Specific-Measurable-Attainable-
Relevant-Time bound) format to describe your career goals
4. You should also outline resources (e.g. financial, people, institution)
that will support you as you pursue your career goals
5. You should also outline any obstacles and how you will plan to
overcome these obstacles that you work towards your career goals
6. You should identify your areas for development, skills and
experiences you need to develop.
7. You should identify strategies to develop your skills, experiences and
area for development such as internship, further studies, mentor, etc.

Body The body of the report should have three parts:
1. PART 3 – integration of Part 1 and Part 2
2. How do your self-assessments in part 1 (career management
competencies, values, anchors, career types, interests, abilities,
personality) fit with your part 2 (career goals, resources, obstacles
and action plan).
3. For example, if you identify a strength in part 1 of the report, in which
way does your strength support your career goals. Also is your
weakness identify in part 1 an obstacle in part 2? What plan of action
do you have in part 2 to develop your area for development identified
in part 1.

1. Overall structure, flow, connection between sections, references and
appendices.
2. Proofread your work and ensure there is no grammar or spelling
errors.
3. Follow APA referencing style for citations and references
4. Provide your career story canvas in the appendix

2. Analysis of strengths and areas for development. Includes 2 strengths and at
least one area for development using Situation-Task-Action-Results (STAR)
behavioural-based examples.
3. Outline of career goals (using SMART – Specific, Measurable, Attainable,
Relevant, Time-bound)
4. Outline resources to help support your career goals and obstacles to
overcome in pursuing your goals
5. Identifies areas/skills/ experience to develop to contribute and be effective in
current and/or future career.
6. Integration of part 1 (Self-Assessment) and part 2 (Career Goals, Resources,
