Exam: Overview – Paper Based Exam
All digital exams involve the risk of technical issues that may compromise your ability to complete the exam.
Students are responsible for completing the following preparation activities that greatly reduce the chance of
issues occurring:
1. Registering ASAP with ProctorU and scheduling your exam session
2. Downloading the latest version of Guardian Browser and completing the equipment test
3. Modifying settings on Apple computers
4. Scheduling and completing a practice exam
AskUs are available for technical advice and support during preparation and exams. If your computer or network
connection do not pass the equipment tests, or you experience technical issues during your practice exam, we
strongly recommend you arrange an alternate equipment to sit your exam.
For instructions on completing the above activities please see Digital examinations - my.UQ - University of
Queensland and refer to the section ‘ProctorU with Guardian Browser’. You may also find this ProctorU
article helpful, it includes a video showing how ProctorU works.
Please note that applications for a deferred exam citing technical issues may not be approved if the above
preparation activities have not been performed.

❑ Short answer questions:
• Provide enough detail, but do not waffle.
• Do not simply ‘brain dump’ everything you know on the topic. Make sure you answer the
question.
❑ Some questions will require integrating knowledge across multiple topics in the course.
❑ You will have to perform calculations, so make sure you have an approved calculator with you
when you sit for the exam.
❑ I have posted suggested solutions to Semester 1 (2023) and Semester 2 (2022) final exam.
Exam: Overview

❑ Every lecture is examinable
• Certain parts of certain lectures are not examinable (see next slide).
• The Harnischfeger case study from Class 12 is examinable. Make sure you have worked
through that case.
❑ Every workshop question, whether discussed in workshop or not, is examinable.
❑ Material covered in the textbook readings that is not discussed in lectures or workshop questions
is not examinable.
• Lectures take precedence over the textbook.
Exam: Overview
12
❑ Some things I will not be testing:
• Slides that were related to the project:
- Researching Australian companies slides (Week 1)
- Excel formatting convention slides (Week 2)
• Any slides labelled ‘not examinable’.
• Certain material that is difficult to directly test in the format that I have described, e.g. I cannot
ask you to do a mathematical proof, although I can ask about the assumptions/approach.
