Answer all FIVE quesƟons. You should read the case (Deng et al. (2023) The Fuyao Glass Cauldon) on
moodle carefully and apply the theories discussed in class to answer the quesƟons. Each quesƟon is
worth 5 marks.
1. IdenƟfy one cultural and one non-cultural leadership problems at Fuyao Glass America under
the new Chinese owners based on Deng et al. (2023) The Fuyao Glass Cauldron. Discuss the
origins of each problem.
2. Discuss posiƟon-based and interest-based bargaining in the negoƟaƟon between Fuyao
Glass America and the United Auto Workers (UAW) as illustrated in this case. Which common
interest should Fuyao Glass America focus on in order to shiŌ from posiƟon-based to
interest-based bargaining with the UAW?
3. Which moral approach (as discussed in the lecture) has Fuyao Glass America adopted in its
charity foundaƟon in the Greater Dayton Region (described on p. 3 of Deng et al., 2023)?
Would you recommend another approach for Fuyao Glass America? Explain why.
4. At Fuyao Glass America, a typical team consists of a Chinese team supervisor and American team
members in order to transfer technical skills from China. IdenƟfy the team arrangement (as
discussed in the lecture). What are the disadvantages of this team arrangement? How would you
improve this arrangement?
