Guidelines for Second Forum Discussion
Time frame: Monday November 27th to Monday December 4th (Just before midnight).
The evaluation of your participation in this Forum Discussion will be based, equally, on the
following three criteria: 1) Early virtual following of and participation in the discussion; 2)
factually based and critically informed contributions; and 3) well-articulated/well-written postings.
Keep in mind that - by design - you will be able to see other people’s postings ONLY AFTER you
have made your own INITIAL contribution. And remember that, as in any discussion, you are
expected to respond/react to other people’s postings too.
You are expected to engage with others to have a fluid discussion. Thus, try and keep your postings
short and succinct (no minimum length, and a maximum of about 250 words for each posting). All
comments/reactions must be tempered by respect and sensitivity.
Please, respond/react based on and drawing from the relevant course readings, weekly
sessions, and your own research proposal:
From a critical comparative perspective (which is centred on core social principles such as
emancipation, equal participation, and justice), and assuming the United Nations’ (UN)
2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a legitimate representation of
a global definition of development, to what extent do you agree or disagree with the
following statement, and why (briefly elaborate):
Statement: In the pursuit of environmental or climate change and health related UN SDGs,
past and current asymmetrical power relations between countries - from both sides of the
North/South global divide - significantly determine their respective capabilities to
implement culturally, economically, and contextually suitable development public
policies.
