"JUST ANOTHER MOVE TO CHINA? THE IMPACT OF INTERNATIONAL ASSIGNMENTS ON EXPATRIATE FAMILIES". by Yvonne Kallane (CS 4 in your core textbook: Dowling et al.' s IHRM (2023) p363-369). There is a link to the CS in your Reading list on ELE. YOU NEED TO ANSWER THE QUESTIONS BELOW for your report, NOT the reflective questions at the end of the case.

Submission date: Tuesday 16* January 2024, by 12.00 noon UK time - Please use the online submission link on ELE.

Submissions have to be anonymous and submitted as PDF files only.

Assessment Criteria - please use rubric 2 in appendix 2 to check your work against these.

TASK: Please read the Case Study very carefully and write a professional Report where you answer the questions below:

1. Critically assess: Is Lachlan the right candidate for the Shanghai assignment? Justify your answer by referring to the expatriate selection literature (tip: make sure you consider Lachlan's full profile, including the family situation).

2. Looking ahead: Advance some recommendations to facilitate the MacDougall's relocation to China. Discuss what challenges they might face and what the company should do to strategically plan their move and increase chances of success. Place particular emphasis on: a) Pre-departure preparation and assistance and b) adjustment and performance management (including adjustment of family members and consideration of the most appropriate remuneration package). It is essential to refer to the academic literature to support both your analysis of potential issues and to give credibility to your recommendations. You can also refer to case studies to illustrate your points.

Please note that recommendations should be well-supported by literature (and- not orl- best practice from existing MNCs) and should be feasible, realistic and detailed. They need to also demonstrate CRITICAL EVALUATION: consider pros and cons of what you propose and clearly justify your points. You can use the help of words that foster criticality (see example below).
