Due Date Weighting Format Length/Duration Submission

Turnitin
Turnitin is an originality checking and plagiarism prevention tool that enables checking of submitted written work for
improper citation or misappropriated content. Each Turnitin assignment is checked against other students' work, the
Internet and key resources selected by your Course Coordinator.
If you are instructed to submit your assessment via Turnitin, you will find the link to the submission in your Moodle
course site. You can find out more information in the Turnitin information site for students.
Submitting your assignments
It is your responsibility to ensure you submit the correct assignment under the correct link. After the due date and
time has passed, you cannot resubmit. What is in the submission link at the due time will be considered the final
submission without exception. Please take care uploading your assignments. Please note your submission must be in
a word document NOT PDF.
Viva Voce
Any student may be called upon to provide a viva voce (from the Latin meaning ‘living voice’) for any assignment. A
viva voce is an interview style meeting where you will be asked to explain, discuss or use information related to any
assignment or work produced for this course. These can be used to ascertain knowledge and ability including the
extent to which the student has undertaken the required reading, done preparatory work and can demonstrate
understanding of what they have written. Viva voces are used in conjunction with submitted assessment work not
instead of submitted work.
Late Submissions
If you submit your assessment after the due date, you will incur a penalty of 5% of the assessment mark per day that
the submission is late. No submissions will be accepted after 5 business days from the due date. You can read more
in the UNSW Assessment Implementation Procedure. Please note that a wrong assignment as noted in the course
outline: “…An assignment is considered late if the requested format, such as hard copy or electronic copy, has not
been submitted on time or where the ‘wrong’ assignment has been submitted” is when a different subject’s paper had
has been submitted. This definition excludes the submission of drafts/incorrect versions of papers in this subject
once the deadline has passed.
Extensions
You are expected to manage your time to meet assessment due dates. Extensions will only be granted for students
who have been awarded Special Consideration.
No extensions will be granted for 10 minute debriefs, wiki reflections or class participation.
MGMT 5050 – T1 2024 4
Special Consideration
Special Consideration is the process for assessing the impact of short-term events beyond your control (exceptional
circumstances), on your performance in a specific assessment task. Circumstances beyond your control are
exceptional circumstances or situations that may:
• Prevent you from completing a course requirement,
• Stop you from submitting an assessment,
• Significantly affect your assessment performance.

Available here is a list of circumstances that may be beyond your control. This is only a list of examples, and your
exact circumstances may not be listed.
You can find more detail and the application form on the Special Consideration site. You can apply for Special
Consideration via the special consideration portal on myUNSW (My Student Profile > Special Consideration).
Use of generative AI (including Chat GPT and translators)
Part of your learning outcomes in this course are linked to your ability to communicate in all forms in English. As such,
using a translator for full translation is unacceptable. Use of a dictionary is permitted however you are cautioned
against using a thesaurus in an attempt to create more specialised language choices. Authentic voice of your ideas is
important. This is not a language course and as such, you are expected to use a word processor to ensure
consistency of spelling and grammar, but language perfection is not the goal. Ideas, application of concepts and the
process you have undertaken is of upmost importance to the integrity of your work. Work that read as computer
generated or is determined computer generated will be referred for further investigation under the academic integrity
guidelines. Where any AI is used it is recommended that you:
• Fact check the information (information submitted that is discriminatory, biased or factually incorrect will be
considered unacceptable for grading)
• Acknowledge the use and cite the source as shown at https://apastyle.apa.org/blog/how-to-cite-chatgpt
• You should also acknowledge its use for research acknowledging such assistance.
• Remember that any use of a direct quote (regardless of source) demonstrates your ability to locate and paste
knowledge, rather than your ability to use, understand or apply it. Direct quotes are discouraged in this
course.
It is highly recommended that you develop all your work on either a Google document on via your Microsoft online
account (this documents your changes in real time and shows the development of your work as it occurs), as you may
be called upon to demonstrate your assessment process. Handwritten notes may be insufficient in terms of verifying
your timeline of work or process undertaken and should not be relied upon.
Harvard Referencing
In business, you must be able to show how your thinking is informed. Generally, this takes the form of a Harvard
reference. In text this means author, date and in the reference list it provides the location and full details enabling the
reader to go and read the original source if they want more information of if they are in doubt or seek further
clarification. It also signals to a reader how your ideas are informed and on what basis you assert something. It makes
your work credible and shows your approach to forming ideas is based upon more than opinion alone. It is critical to
provide these citations/references because they support your ideas based on published and credible/reputable
information; adding gravitas to what you assert. All work submitted in MGMT5050 should have Harvard referencing
included.
MGMT 5050 – T1 2024 5
Assessment 1: Individual Organisational Memo

Week 3: 1pm (AEST) Friday March 1.

15%

Written organisational memo - documenting the work and the process

750 words +/-10% plus reference list

Via Turnitin
Description of assessment task
This task is designed to authentically replicate a workplace scenario. Your manager, knowing you are undertaking a
course in ethics and sustainability, has asked you to write an organisational memo that they will present to the board
at the next meeting. Knowing you are a student they have also set this task in a very short time frame and hence you
are planning to use GenAI to get you started and support you in writing it.

By way of background: An organisational memo is an internal professional document that you would give to your
manager to progress an idea. It must be factually correct and evidenced through various credible sources.

The company you work for is planning to explore space. As part of the space exploration program they will also offer
‘vanity canisters’ whereby people can send trinkets or mementos into space (including the ashes of deceased persons
and animals). There has been much discussion at work by senior management about how exciting this is and how
much money they can make. Of particular interest is that as ‘space’ is not ‘governed’ there are no limitations on what
the company can do and how much it can take to space. Ultimately anything that breaks down, explodes or any vanity
cansiters just ends up as ‘space junk’ and are not the company’s problem to consider.

Knowing you have studied sustainability, your manager has asked you to write a memo on the potential problems with
the vanity canister plan. You should link this to the UNSDGs. Ensure you highlight the types of practices the company
is considering that present a challenge ( based on the conversation artile you have read) and how the organisation
needs to act. Your role is to support your company to act ethically and sustainably to enhance its reputation rather
than damage it (this is not about making money but being a good citizen). By way of a thought starter you can look
at the conversation:
https://theconversation.com/you-can-pay-to-have-your-ashes-buried-on-the-moon-just-because-you-can-doesnt-
mean-you-should-220664
Ensure you reference this paper in your work also.

This document must be produced showing track changes, and review tools. You may create the base memo with
GenAI, however you need to show how you have added your thinking to the problem and amended what the software
provided. Remember AI needs fact checking. You are responsible for this document and any incorrect or
discriminatory information will be considered unsatisfactory. Further, any citations found to be false will be escalated
to the academic integrity office. Any documents solely produced by AI will be also unsatisfactory. It is expected that
you will change/rewrite/adjust >50% of the paper to be successful in completing this task.

Use materials from weeks 1 and 2 of THIS COURSE and ensure you make links to the direct work of week 1 & 2 in S&I,
LIP and prelearning. No other materials beyond the source material (see above) and course materials are to be used.
This must be written in your own words (do not copy things from the internet as this may lead to plagiarism, do not
write your paper in one language and translate it as this will be seen as computer generated work. The use of
MGMT 5050 – T1 2024 6
QUILLBOT, Baidu Education, Chat GPT GrammarlyGO, BARD etc or any generative AI for information or as an editor
MUST BE CITED. Students are responsible to ensure their work is not written by any computer generated system. AI
detected work incorrectly or inappropriately used, uncited or acknowldged will be reported as serious plagiarism and
escalated to Central Academic Integrity.
This is NOT a research assignment. You are not required to undertake research on any organisation, instead it is your
opportunity to demonstrate your understanding of the first 2 weeks of class in your own words and applied to a real
world problem.
The marking rubric will be available in week 2. There is a link on Moodle providing more information on how to write a
memo. You are responsible to create your own template to submit in a WORD document showing mark ups as part of
your process (you can use review comments and track changes). A short video detailing the requirement of this
assignment and providing tips on doing well on this assignment will be provided on Moodle, under the Assessments
Hub.
Format requirements
Submission must be made in a word-based document.
• 12-point font, Ariel or Times New Roman
• Harvard referenced
• 1.5 line spaced
• Double return between paragraphs
• Left justified
• Min 2.5 cm margins
• Must be uploaded in a word document with track changes shown
Submission instructions
Submission must be made via the Turnitin submission link under the Assessments Hub.

Assessment 2: Individual Ethical Decision-Making Report Process

Week 7: 1pm (AEST) Friday March 29

30%

Written report, components task

1700 words +/- 10%, excluding reference list

Via Turnitin
Description of assessment task
The ability to complete a professional report at work will be expected of you as a graduating master’s student. In this
assessment you will use and apply the tools and concepts you have been exposed to and demonstrate the skills you
have developed over the first half of the course. Rather than doing a complete report, we are asking you to submit a
series of report components as would be completed to create and to learn the process of doing a report.

ChatGPT (by OpenAI) is known for its increasing impact on society. There are many known problems: from unethical
use of it in practice, to using materials it neither owns nor credits, its discriminatory nature, and the amount of
greenhouse emissions it creates to operate. The problems are many. Your job is to choose one of these mentioned
problems (unethical use of Ai in practice to using materials it neither owns nor credits, its discriminatory nature, and
the amount of greenhouse emissions it creates to operate). Using this problem, you will submit one document with 5
parts:
• Part A: Use the 5 Ws framework to summarise the problem using citations (approx. 150 – 200 words written
as a narrative with no dot points )
• Part B: Conduct a PESTEL analysis in a 6-box grid. Again, reference how you have established each
component (use of dot points in the grid is fine). Under the grid provide a 200 – 250 word synopsis (no dot
points and written as a narrative) of the main problems based on your PESTEL referenced.
• Part C: Based upon your synopsis of the PESTEL you should have 2 or 3 main ethcial or sustainability
concerns. In approximately 750 words analyse these concerns by applying the UNSDGs and at least one
ethical framework. This analysis could be presented to OpenAI as a rationale for the concerns highlighting
why they need to be ‘worried about it’.
• Part D: Provide OpenAI with at least 2 and no more than 3 recommendations as to steps it can take to
mitigate or ameliorate the concerns you have highlighted. This section must also show identification of risks
that could be faced for successful implementation of the recommendations and potential mitigation
actions. (approx. 250 words)
• Part E: What have I learned? Having completed each of the above parts what did you learn? Has your thinking
changed? Why or why not? (approx. 300 words)
*note Parts A – D are written 3rd person while Part E is a 1st person reflective narrative.
You will also have to apply at least one ethical framework, incorporate an understanding of stakeholders and
underpin your work with SDGs. FOCUS on ethics and SDGS. Show critical thinking, make some determinations of why
something is good or poor practice based on what you have been learning. Everything you say should be supported by
citations, research and facts. Make sure your work is both truthful, accurate and non-discriminatory. Your work must
be informed, meaning that references/citation need to be provided to support your assertions throughout the
submission. The use of any AI MUST be cited, and fact checked. You will be held accountable for what is written
and submitted. Programs including QUILLBOT, Baidu Education, Chat GPT, GrammarlyGO, BARD etc or any
MGMT 5050 – T1 2024 8
generative AI must be cited and acknowledged. This includes any use of AI as an editor. Students are responsible to
ensure their work is not fully written or translated by any computer-generated system. AI used unethically will be
reported as serious plagiarism and escalated to Central Academic Integrity. Work that is deemed as computer
generated will be graded as unsatisfactory. It is highly recommended to use a Google document or MS OneDrive to
ensure your progress is visible upon request.

You will be required to undertake academic research to complete this case study report, finding at least 3 additional
papers to support your work using available resources through the UNSW Library catalogues, databases and
collections, or other appropriate sources. You can link your your UNSW account to Google Scholar enabling easy
access. If you are uncertain how to conduct a library search please reach out to:
https://www.library.unsw.edu.au/research/support-for-your-research
Or
https://www.library.unsw.edu.au/about-unsw-library/contact-us

Business Communication Quarterly
Business Horizons
Management Journal of Business Communication
Journal of Management Education
Journal of Management Information Systems

You can also use any materials provided by the course. Your refences must show the ability to conduct library
research. You must be able to discuss any reference used and justify its inclusion. Any inappropriate references may
lead to your work being sent to academic integrity as a breach. A short video detailing the requirement of this
assignment and providing tips on doing well on this assignment will be provided on Moodle, under the Assessments
Hub.
Report Component requirements:
In addition to the parts listed above you must have:
Reference list /or bibliography (please ensure you know the difference)
Appendices if used must be referred to and must be referenced. All appendices must ADD value. Appendices must
be listed Appendix A, Appendix B etc. Direct copy paste of models is not an appropriate use of an appendix.

Assessment 3: Part A and B
Part A - Reflective Wikis
l Weeks 5 and 8 by 1 pm the following week (e.g., Week 5 WIKI due is Monday 1pm of week 6) and
l a full copy of both WIKIs submitted in Week 9: 1pm (AEST) Monday April 8.
10%
Reflective wiki entry
150 words weekly +/- 10% weekly final submission maximum 330 words.
Weeks 6 and 9 Via individual wiki on Moodle, then collated and submitted via Turnitin week 9
Description of assessment task
Reflective learning supports the development and application of skills. The reflective wiki is designed to support you
to reflect upon the learning as you complete certain tasks. Like a personal journal, the best value is to do this in real
time. The wiki task is designed for you to reflect upon what you have experienced as you complete the assessments
of the course, and what you have learned. It also requires you to consider your feedback and learning and how you
have been impacted. It must be written in your own words. You must NOT use any form of AI in the writing or editing
of this work. On the basis that education should be transformative, we want to hear about your ability to self-reflect.
The wiki is done twice during the term: after the first assignment has been returned and after you have submitted the
second assignment. You must then collate it into a word document and submit it through Turnitin for a final grade of
this item.

Part 1
In weeks 5 and 8 week answer the wiki reflective question in 150 words +/-10% in your personal wiki on Moodle. You
should use the feedback your tutor has provided in class and in your assignments along with and course materials to
support your assertions. Apply references to these. We want you to engage with what you do and the teaching via
feedback to provide the best opportunity to improve. Once submitted your content is NOT to be changed or updated
after the due time.

Part 2
Please download both your wiki posts from each week as is (no further changes at this point). You can do this by
going to the WIKI INDEX top right of your wiki edit page. Scroll to the bottom and download as a wiki template file. You
do not need to format this much – just head wiki 1, and wiki 2. You can include a reference list at the end. It must be a
direct copy of what you have submitted with no changes. You will not see your Turnitin score of matches as this used
as an integrity checker. Note any sections with direct matches to public sources, poorly referenced or matching
previous submissions will be reported for plagiarism.
Upload a full copy of your two wiki entries to Turnitin. These will be graded via Turnitin rubric.
THIS IS DUE BY Week 9: 1pm (Sydney Time) Monday April 8, only one submission is allowed
MGMT 5050 – T1 2024 11
Submission instructions
Your weekly wiki pages are in your tutors’ online Learning in Practice space. The Turnitin link will be available in week
8 after class. There is only one submission given your wikis must be original work (written in your own words) and
cannot be altered after the fact.
Supporting resources and links
In completing your weekly wikis, please use course materials only. Your weekly Wikis may also become a source of
data/evidence for your final reflection.
Part B Video reflection with transcript
Week 11: 1pm (AEST) Friday April 26.
25%
Video taken without edits or support slides/ materials
4-minute video +/- 10 Secs
Via Moodle assignment for the video and transcript through the Turnitin link
Description of assessment task
The final assessment task is designed for you to reflect upon how you have developed and changed. We are looking
for you to talk about how the course has impacted you. You can consider what you have learned over the course, but
we are NOT wanting a summary of what was taught. This is a reflection in consideration of how you have changed as
a result of your study. On the basis that education should be transformative, we want to hear about your ability to self-
reflect. Note any sections with direct matches to public sources, poorly referenced or matching previous submissions
will be reported for plagiarism. Any work shown generated by AI will also be reported. The reflection is submitted in
two parts. All of the prompts below must be included in yrou reflections:

• Reflect upon how you used or did not use AI in this course to do your work. What did you learn in the process
of this?
• Was the feedback you received over both your memo and case study what you expected or did you learn
something as a result of reading your feedback?
• Did you improve in your assessments over the term, why or why not? What do you know about yourself as a
learner in relation to this?
• Reflect upon any actions or changes you made over the 10 weeks - make meaning of it for you specifically.
Consider how are you different and draw upon this as 'data'.
• Specifically discuss what AI will mean for your future ethically and sustainably.
Part 1 – submitted to Moodle assignment. You need to make a single take video 4 mins +/- 10 seconds considering
the three points above, and presenting what you have learned and how you have changed (it is not a summary video it
is a reflective presentation about you and how you have changed). No edits, no props or slides, consider it a recorded
interview. Load it to the Moodle assignment. You can load a link to YouTube or your OneDrive if that is easier.
Upload a video with you talking directly to camera. You should be dressed professionally as you might if you were
attending an online meeting or interview. This should also extend to your background. Take the video in landscape,
not portrait.
MGMT 5050 – T1 2024 12
Part 2 – submitted to Turnitin. Upload a transcript of what you said in your video to Turnitin. Transcribe your video and
submit that transcript to Turnitin. A transcript is done AFTER and as a result of your video. You should edit this
transcript to add and provide references in it to show your reflection as informed.
NOTE as this is a transcript of what you have said you can only load it once and will not have access to the Turnitin
report for similarity
.
Submission instructions
The video reflection will be submitted during the exam period. BOTH the video and transcript must be submitted for
this assignment to be complete. Submit the video via Moodle assignment and the transcript via Turnitin link.
Supporting resources and links
In completing your reflection, you must include some reference to your personal feedback received in assignment 1
and 2 by way of evidence or data. Your two reflective Wikis may also become a source of data/evidence. The use of
QUILLBOT, Baidu Education, Chat GPT GrammarlyGO, BARD etc or any generative AI is strictly prohibited for this
task. Students are responsible to ensure their work is not written by any computer generated system. AI detected
will be reported as serious plagiarism and escalated to Central Academic Integrity.

Being present, available, and answering questions each and every week. Note you must attend your
assigned LiP to be eligible for marks
Description of assessment task
Being an active learner and participant helps you to be more successful and develops the skills required in
today’s workplaces. Coming to class and engaging with the teacher and your peers is an important part of the
Learning in Practice session. Preparation for attendance will assist you and as part of the active participation
in the overall course you need to engage with your classmates each week. This will provide you with the best
foundation to learn in MGMT5050. Each week (including week 1) there are active learning components to
prepare. Each week, your Tutor will have synchronous activities which may involve taking part in activities,
small group discussion, short informal presentations to the class, answering questions, class discussion.
Simply attending the Learning in Practice Workshops without getting involved in discussions and activities is of
little value either to you or your classmates and will result in no or a minimal participation mark.
