Article Summary and Analysis (14%)
Instructions
For this assignment, students will be randomly assigned to a
peer-reviewed research article in the area of social psychology and
required to write a short summary of the article, followed by an
analysis of the key concepts, research practices, and/or findings
presented. Full articles and article assignment information will be
listed on Quercus. The submission should include and clearly
articulate the following:
• a title page
• a summary of the research article, including its research questions, methods, and results
• a critical analysis of an aspect(s) of the article (e.g., methods, conclusions, etc.)
•
a complete reference list The submission should be approximately
2-2.5 pages in length (double-spaced; 500-600 words) and follow APA
style. Students are responsible for submitting a Word and/or PDF copy on
Quercus by Tuesday, February 27th at 4:00pm.
For the critically analyzing, use the following questions as a guide:
• What are the strengths and/or limitations in the research design used by the authors?
• Are the research findings and conclusions supported with appropriate logic?
• Is there sufficient evidence provided to support the authors’ arguments, claims, and/or conclusions?
• What are the implications of the authors’ arguments for the area of social psychology?
•
In what ways does the research represent the application of effective
and/or ineffective social psychological research methods?
• How
might the research conducted in the article support psychology
professionals (e.g., researchers, clinicians, etc.) across different
contexts or in their social interactions?
• How do the ideas
and/or conclusions in the article extend to different disciplines
outside of the social psychology field?

• Examples and refences from class can be included, but stronger support needs peer-reviewed academic sources

comprehensive extraction of the key concepts, ideas, and main theses
from the article - concepts and methods used in the research

clearly in order to convey intended meaning - spelling, grammar, and
punctuation are accurate - style and structure supports flow of writing
