SOEE 1390 - Introduction to Business, Environment and Corporate
Responsibility
Critical Review 1
This assessment asks you to critically evaluate the real-world implications of
the material covered in Weeks 15, 16, 17 & 18: The Grand Theories and
Perspectives from consumers and companies.
Assignment Details
Drawing on what you have learned about business and its responsibilities,
sustainability in organisations, and consumer behaviour, and using an
organisation of your choice as a case study, address the following:
• Identify your case study’s business strategy and discuss, based on
evidence from academic and grey literature, how it constitutes a
driver or barrier to the creation of value (include what value and for
whom);
• Identify key sustainability outcomes the organisation delivers and
others that could potentially deliver. Explain how the latter could be
achieved, including what needs to change at the organisational level
for that to happen.
Your answer should draw on the theoretical concepts and practical
examples covered in weeks 15, 16, 17 & 18, as well as your own
independent reading of the academic literature.
Your work must reflect a unique perspective and discussion based on
academic and grey literature, including sector-specific corporate
sources. Note that while it is appropriate to use reputable media
sources and non-academic literature in your examples, your
discussion of theory must cite appropriate academic sources.
