version.
• Marking Criteria:
o Marking criteria is presented at the end of this document.
o Deduction of 5% of the maximum mark for each calendar day after the due date.
o After ten calendar days late, a mark of zero will be awarded.
• Learning Outcomes Assessed:
o LO1 to LO7.
Problem Statement:
In pursuit of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3) - "Ensure healthy lives
and promote well-being for all at all ages," there is a critical need to address healthcare
challenges, particularly in regions with limited access to quality medical services.
Design a technological solution to address any one of the targets set by UN, mentioned below.
Emphasise on leveraging innovation and technology to enhance healthcare accessibility,
affordability, and effectiveness.
Targets set by UN:
Targets Description
1. By 2030, reduce the global maternal mortality ratio to less than 70 per 100,000 live
births
2. By 2030, end preventable deaths of newborns and children under 5 years of age,
with all countries aiming to reduce neonatal mortality
3. By 2030, end the epidemics of AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and neglected tropical
diseases and combat hepatitis, water-borne diseases and other communicable
diseases
4. By 2030, reduce by one third premature mortality from non-communicable diseases
through prevention and treatment and promote mental health and well-being
5. Strengthen the prevention and treatment of substance abuse, including narcotic drug
abuse and harmful use of alcohol
6. By 2020, halve the number of global deaths and injuries from road traffic accidents
7. By 2030, ensure universal access to sexual and reproductive health-care services,
including for family planning, information and education, and the integration of
reproductive health into national strategies and programmes
8. Achieve universal health coverage, including financial risk protection, access to
quality essential health-care services and access to safe, effective, quality and
affordable essential medicines and vaccines for all
9. By 2030, substantially reduce the number of deaths and illnesses from hazardous
chemicals and air, water and soil pollution and contamination
10. Strengthen the capacity of all countries, in particular developing countries, for early
warning, risk reduction and management of national and global health risks
Note: The chosen problem should include innovative solution from the AI perspective. If you are
not from the IT/Computer Science background, please do a thorough research about the
capabilities of AI and explore insights on the solution of problem being addressed.
Milestones: Complete each milestone every week to achieve your submission target by the end
of week 4. Note that the report submission is due on week 4. Note that individual milestones
will be part of the weekly discussion. Following guidelines (at least) must be part of your report.
Milestone 1: Problem Understanding and Solution Proposal (Week 1)
• Tasks:
o Provide a comprehensive background outlining the healthcare challenges in
regions with limited access to quality medical services.
o Clearly define the proposed technological solution, emphasising how it aligns with
one of the UN targets.
o Develop an understanding of existing healthcare technologies and their limitations
in addressing the specified target.
Milestone 2: Technology Modeling and Innovation Impact Assessment (Week 2)
• Tasks:
o Develop a model of the proposed healthcare solution, illustrating its key
components and functionalities.
o Apply frameworks to assess the diffusion, adoption, and maturity potential of the
proposed innovation.
o Discuss the concept of dominant design in the context of the proposed solution
and evaluate key drivers influencing its emergence.
Milestone 3: Commercialisation and Financial Strategies (Week 3)
• Tasks:
o Discuss and apply business strategies such as the customer development
process, lean startups, agile development, and business model canvas.
o Explore partnerships and collaborations with stakeholders including healthcare
organisations, technology providers, and financial institutions to support the
implementation and scaling of proposed solutions.
Milestone 4: Ecosystem Evaluation and Organisational Culture Analysis (Week 4)
