Anything written during upload time will not be considered as valid response. – CLASHES – In case the exam time clashes with a class, I’d recommend skipping the lecture for this week and take the exam. If it clashes with another exam, please contact the School of Economics (economics.enquiries@sydney.edu.au) office as soon as possible and explain the clash to them. General Information Page 4The University of Sydney – Access: The short-release assignment can be accessed from the unit’s Canvas site under the “Assignments” tab – It will show up in the Canvas site about a week before the exam. – It is an OPEN-BOOK exam/assignment. – You do not need to install any software or apps to take the exam as you will not be proctored. – You are free to consult any relevant course material on your devices. – Despite this, you are still subject to the University’s Academic Integrity Policy and Code of Conduct (https://www.sydney.edu.au/students/academic-integrity.html) and are required to work on the assignment by yourself. – Any academic integrity breach may result in penalties: (https://www.sydney.edu.au/students/academic-integrity/breaches.html). General Information Page 5The University of Sydney The in-semester assignment will be based on the content covered in lectures, tutorials, and readings from Week 1 to Week 6. The main topics include: • Linear and Non-Linear Functions • Logarithms, Exponentials, and Interest Rates • Financial Mathematics • Compounding, NPV, Annuities, Mortgage • Differentiation • Unconstrained Optimization Content Coverage Page 6The University of Sydney • Section 1 (20 marks – suggested time 30 minutes): • Consists of 10 Questions including a variety of multiple-choice, multiple-answer, and dropdown questions. • For multiple-answer questions, partial grades will be awarded for correct answers. Choosing incorrect answer will draw a penalty. Minimum score on such questions is 0. • Section 2 (15 marks – suggested time 30 minutes) • Consists of 4 short-questions. • Any diagrams or algebra you wish to add to your answer should be handwritten and uploaded to the 'ECON1003 Assignment Upload DROPBOX’ as a SINGLE-PDF file. • You will have 15 minutes to upload your handwritten material to the Canvas Assignment only AFTER you have submitted the quiz. It must NOT be taken on a mobile device. – Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox are the preferred browsers for accessing Canvas. – Please keep track of your time Tips Page 10The University of Sydney A standard tip for all the exams you take is to follow RUPA! – Read – the question, multiple times if you have to – Understand – what’s actually being asked, not just the broad concept – Plan – what’s the best strategy to answer this question – Answer – put your plan to work –Be direct (don’t waffle!!!) –Try to answer the questions being asked specifically rather than creating stories of your own or providing general answers –Long answer does not necessarily mean high marks Tips Page 11The University of Sydney – If you encounter technical difficulties during the test that affect your ability to complete the test you will need to describe your problems on a Student Declaration and apply for Special Consideration – If you are uncertain about a question during the test, answer to the best of your ability. – Do not contact the unit coordinator or other teaching staff during the test –After the test, email your unit coordinator with information including the question and question number.
