Let’s review the sets of こ・そ・あ・ど words that refer to things:
これ This one (near me/speaker)
それ That one (near you/listener)
あれ That one (over there, far from both)

You can use these to describe ’this one’, etc.:
これはいくらですか。

How much is this?
You can use these to describe specific nouns:

いくら = ‘how much’
Group exercise:
In groups, practice asking each other how much
the following items are, using the こ・そ・あ・
ど words. One person use Picture A and the
other picture B.
れい (rei: example):
A: すみません。(sumimasen) そのスマ
ホ(すまほ)はいくらですか。(sono
sumaho wa ikura desu ka)
B: ごまんえんです。(goman en desu)

You can ask for directions by saying:
すみません。ぎんこうはどこですか。
sumimasen. Ginkoo wa doko desu ka.
Excuse me. Where is the bank?
You can give directions by pointing and saying:
(ぎんこうは)あそこです。
(Ginkoo wa) asoko desu.
(The bank is) right over there.
