Susan Sonnenschein’s “ Parents’ Beliefs about Children’s Math Development and
Children’s participation in Math Activities.” Is published in the Development of
Attitudes and Emotions Related to Mathematics in the Child Development Research
section of the website Hindawi. This article was edited by Helga Krinzinger and
published on October 10, 2012.
The reason I found this article is because I wanted to understand the relationship
between children's math ability and parents. In this article, a very clear view is
expressed, and experiments are also made. I think it fits perfectly with the article I
want to cite. This article mainly tells that children from different families have
greatly different abilities in mathematics due to the influence of different family
education. For me, the experiments in this article are very helpful to my opinion. The
study compared the educational views of Asian and American parents and showed
that these different views had a direct impact on the children's math ability. I saw in
this article that the biggest difference between Asian parents and white parents was
found through research. Asian parents see a link between academic success and hard
work. White parents, on the other hand, saw a link between academic ability and
academic success. This is also reflected in the fact that Asian children generally show
higher math skills than white children in primary and secondary school. One of the
things I agree with in this article is that children's math ability is related to parents'
sense of faith. Since I grew up in a Chinese family, I have received the idea from my
parents that as long as I work hard enough, I will succeed and get good results. This
makes me practice constantly to improve my math ability when learning math. I think
this article is of great help to me, because there are many different experiments in this
article, which analyze the problem from different angles. And each experiment was
not monolithic, it included parents of different nationalities such as Asian American
Latino and African American. This is very helpful for my article, so as to
demonstrate that the relationship between children's math ability and parents can not
be concluded from one side. I think the writing style of this article is formal. Both the
body of the article and some experiments can be verified. And most of the
conclusions are based on experiments. I think this article is well written, mostly
experiments and arguments. And there is no unilateral judgment. The whole article is
very rigorous and professional. And this article also quotes some articles in the same
field to implement Susan's views and ideas. This also adds a lot of professionalism to
her experimental selection and experimental questions.
