1.Context
• Two new 2-storey buildings (located across the road) have been acquired
to accommodate additional 240 (360--->600) employees。
• These two new buildings in Melbourne office would support, both wired and
wireless networked office environment
• The new buildings have already been wired for network connections, where each
floor has a wiring closet with necessary structured cabling. Each wiring closet has
four fiber optic cables running to a dedicated server room in the basement.
• The two new buildings also need a Wide Area Network (WAN) to be connected to
the existing Main office network (across the road).

2.Requirement ---- Connectivity
• Connectivity
Connect devices in each floor through both wired
and wireless connection
Connect each floor in a building
Connect all buildings including existing main office

2.Requirement ---- Performance
• It is anticipated that the average network traffic generated by each active wired
network user is estimated to be around 25-30 Mbps. The expected user activity
pattern for two new buildings can be seen in Figure 2
• WLAN traffic generated each floor would be 25% of the wired traffic.

200 users at peak time
2.Requirement ---- Performance
• each wired active user is
estimated to be around 25-
30Mbps.
• where each of the new
buildings will accommodate
120 new staff members.
• 100 active users per
building at peak time
• WLAN traffic generated
each floor would be 25% of
the wired traffic.
Maximum Network traffic
generated by each building is
100 * 30* 125% Mbps
Assume 50 active users at each
floor, Maximum Network
traffic generated by each floor
is 100 * 30 * 125% Mbps

1.Floor Plan
• Provide seating arrangement
• Demonstrate how devices in
each floor are connected by
wired and wireless connection
• Point out location of devices
• Where all the cable goes
• Deliver all the network traffic
to the basement through 4
fiber optic cable

60 employees per
floor
Wired network
traffic per switch
30*20 = 600Mbps
Assume AP’s range is 8m*8m
Overlapping
No interference
Connect wireless network to
wired network
Wireless network traffic is :
60*30*25% = 450Mbps
Gather all the traffic with
this floor and send it out
through a border switch

Stability
Redundant and load balancing
mechanism
• Spread workload to multiple
server
• One server fails won’t
disconnect the service
Assumption: Each
building can be
connected through
under-ground caple
Otherwise, need to
purchase service from
WAN provider for
dedicated line
Stability
23
Redundant and load balancing
mechanism
• Network traffic between each
two buildings are carried by
two cable ----balance workload
• Triangle design ensure
connection is failure resistant

Conclusion03
Achievement
 All station are connected via both wired and wireless
 All devices provide enough Bandwidth even during the
peak time
 Resistant to failure
Future Improvement
 Update switch backbone network to vlan switch ------ Network
can be further divided
 Further load balancing by purchase more advance hardware (e.g.
cable, switch , AP, Route etc)
 Implement cache mechiasm in server to reduce network traffic
Presentation skill
 Don’t put too much words in one slides
 The more Picture the merrier
 State your assumption first
 Start rehearsal at least 3 day prior to finish presentation
 Use professional network terminology
