Part Two: Instructions
Chapter 3: IT Project Management (Kathy Schwalbe) See the document in the Class
Activity section of Canvas titled “JWD Consulting's Business Case-1.pdf”
“To justify investing in this project, Erica drafted a business case for it, getting input and feedback
from Joe, from one of her senior staff members in the PMO and from a member of the Finance
department. She also used a corporate template and sample business cases from past projects as a
guide. Table 3-2 provides the business case. (Note that this example and others are abbreviated.)”
Because this project is relatively small and is for an internal sponsor, the business case is not as long as
many other business cases.”
1. In the same group, review table 3-2.
2. How does this compare to what your group expected to see? What surprises you? What
informs you?
3. Provide justification for why you believe Erica included each of the Business case sections.
4. Elect one member of your group (a different member to part one), to share these thoughts with
the rest of the class.
This exercise will give you insight into what is usually contained in a business case. For group
assignment please follow the format given in the Week 6 lecture slides.
