GUIDE
Total marks = 50 marks
The following serves as a guide on what you are expected to present on each part of the
report
1.0 Introduction, aims and objectives (3 marks)
❖ Start with the importance of GIS and Remote sensing as a tool for
environmental evaluation and decision making
❖ State the aim of your report
2.0 Methods: (6 marks)
❖ Discuss the significance of each criteria that would be used in the
decision making process.
❖ Highlight the GIS operations that will be used for the decision making
3.0 Results (15 marks):
❖ This is where you provide the GIS outputs for each of the criteria
used in the decision making.
❖ That is, produce an exported map with scale, legend and orientation,
of each of the following, for the area:
(i). Land use and Land cover (4 marks)

❖ Here, produce an exported map with scale, legend and orientation, of the
Land use land cover map of the area with appropriate classifications
❖ Also make a brief discussion on the Land use land cover map, that you
have produced.
(ii). Terrain analysis (elevation, slope, aspect, contour) (4 marks) – 1 mark for each
Figure 2 (a, b, c, d): Terrain analysis (elevation, slope, aspect, contour), one map for each terrain
feature.

(iii). Human infrastructure, built up extent (3 marks)

❖ Here you will discuss the GIS operations carried out to identify the suitable
locations (2 marks)
❖ Produce exported maps with scale, legend and orientation, for each of those
operations, eg. Buffered and cliped built up areas, water courses, flooding
potential areas, etc (4 marks)

❖ This is where you display the output map for your most suitable
possible locations the proposed project.

❖ You can also make a brief discussion on the suitability of these areas
with respect to land use and the terrain analysis.
