I. Task – Derivatives Masterclass (25% of course grade)
Explore and become an expert in a derivatives application, and share your knowledge.
1. Topic selection [1 mark] Explore a post-2019 real-world application where derivatives play
a pivotal role. Topics must differ from class material and may range from (i) extensions of
class material, (ii) innovations in derivatives or derivative pricing, (iii) novel applications of
derivatives in specific industries, (iv) recent developments in derivative markets, or others.
2. Teaching material [7 marks] Research your chosen topic and prepare teaching materials
aimed to facilitate better learning, e.g., presentation slides and/or other types of written
aids to support effective learning within a 15-minute timeframe (12 minutes for 2002).
3. Quiz and solution [6 marks] Practice makes perfect. Create one quiz question that covers
the key concepts in your class. Your students have brilliant minds and find rote
memorization dull, engage them with a question that sparks critical thinking and practical
application. Provide (i) your own detailed solution; (ii) input your question to ChatGPT and
copy its answer; and (iii) compare (i) and (ii), discuss where these two solutions differ,
ensure to comment on how the human answer may be better, and if not, why.
4. Teaching presentation [10 marks] Record a 15-minute teaching segment on your chosen
topic (12 minutes for 2002), explaining relevant concepts with examples. Aim for an
engaging presentation with the use of visual aids and/or other elements as appropriate.
5. Reflection [1 marks] Give a brief reflection on your experience, highlight what you have
learned from preparing this segment.

IV. Working as a Team & Making Contributions
“… [T]he ability to work effectively and harmoniously in a group is a strength that employers want
their employees to have. In fact, they will likely ask you how you function in a team during the
interview process, so come prepared with an anecdote that highlights your ability to compromise
and collaborate.” (Indeed.com)
Job applications and interviews look for previous work experience and ability to work in a team.
In this assignment, you will work within a team to accomplish a task - just as in a professional job.
Achievements in this assignment and good team work can enhance your résumé!
To work effectively as a team and to ensure all members contribute equally to this team work,
please:
1. Meet and discuss your expectations and assign responsibility early on
2. Meet regularly
3. Every member MUST contribute equally to all components, including the teaching
recording
An important aspect of effective team work is to identify teamwork issues EARLY and manage
the situation professionally (see tips below).
If you encounter an insurmountable issue despite your best efforts, please document the
evidence of those efforts and contact the lecturer or tutor as soon as possible. In such instances,
it is most likely that the team will be reorganized, and the new teams will each need to start afresh
by selecting a new topic. This is necessary as disputes over attributing efforts to the old topic can
cost significant time and efforts, hindering overall progress on your assignment.
Tips for effective team work could be found in the ANU Study Skills website
(https://www.anu.edu.au/students/academic-skills/study-skills/group-work).
