MGTS7610 Business Presentation Assignment Guide 1
MGTS7610 Management Communication (S1, 2024)
Assessment task 2: Business presentation
1. When is this task due?
This task is due by 4pm (Brisbane time)
on Friday, 10 May 2024.
• Late submissions will receive a 10%
penalty per day.
• IT problems are NOT an acceptable
reason for submitting work late.
• To avoid late penalties, don’t wait until
the last minute to submit your work.
• Your work will not be graded if it is more
than 7 days late.
2. What should I do if I need an extension?
• If you can’t submit your work on time
because you are sick (or have another
acceptable reason), you may request an
“extension.” Extensions give you a new
due date, so you can submit work late
without getting a late penalty.
• If you need an extension, you MUST
apply online BEFORE the due date.
• All decisions about assignment
extensions are made by the UQ
Business School Examinations team.
UQ Course staff CANNOT grant
extensions.
• Do NOT ask the Course Coordinator
or your tutor for an extension.
3. How much does this task contribute to my
final grade?
This task is worth 30% of your final grade.
4. How will this task be graded?
• The Grading Rubric for this assessment
task is included at the end of this
document.
• Read the Grading Rubric carefully, and
make sure you understand what is
required.

5. Can I use ChatGPT or other AI?
• You MAY use generative AI technologies
on this assignment.
• However, you MUST
o include a full transcript of all of your
interactions with AI (for every part of
the assignment)
o reference and critically evaluate the
AI contribution.
Failure to include a FULL
TRANSCRIPT of your interactions
with AI will result in a grade of ZERO
(0) for the entire assignment.
• Failure to reference AI use may
constitute student misconduct under
UQ’s Student Code of Conduct.
6. What do I have to do?
Presentations that don’t follow these
instructions will not be graded.
Imagine you are a Workplace Sustainability
Consultant giving a speech at a (fictional)
Industry Association Conference.
Create a 5-minute video presentation
recommending a solution to a problem
caused by businesses in a specific industry.
Submit the following three (3) documents,
• Your video presentation [see 7.1, 8.1 &
10. Video recording below]
• A Critical Reflection on your writing,
design, and delivery choices. [see 7.2,
8.2 & 11.Critical Reflection below]
• If you used AI: A full transcript of all AI

• Use what you have learned about visual
communication to design your PPT slides
• The Reference List should use APA 7th
style.
Do NOT mention “MGTS7610” or your

professional presentation, not an
assignment.

continuous video.
• Submit your video assignment with
EchoVideo.
8.2 Critical Reflection (AND your full AI
Transcript, if applicable)
• Go to the MGTS7610 Blackboard site
and click “Assessment” in the left‐hand
menu.
• Go to the folder for “Assessment 2 –
Business Presentation”.

questions.
• If you need technical help with Zoom or
Kaltura, contact the Ask Us service.
• Do NOT email general assignment-
related questions. Use the Ed
Discussion Board, so that other
students can see the answer.

10. Video recording – maximum 5 minutes (+/-
30 seconds)
Imagine you have been invited to speak at a
(fictional) Industry Association Conference
(you can choose which industry).
The goal of your presentation is to persuade
industry leaders (e.g., CEOs of companies in
that industry) to adopt ONE solution to ONE of
the problems below:
• businesses harming water quality
(UNSDG 6)
• businesses failing to provide “decent
work” (UNSDG8)
• businesses failing to promote
sustainable consumption (UNSDG 12)

You need to
• choose a problem that is relevant to your
chosen industry (or choose an industry
that is relevant to the problem you wish to
solve)
• research your chosen problem / industry
• identify ONE solution that can be
implemented by businesses in that
industry
• create a 5-minute video presentation
recommending ONE solution to ONE
problem.
NOTES
• Your recording must be maximum 5
minutes (+/- 30 seconds), irrespective of
how long you speak for.
Videos that are longer than 5 minutes 30
seconds may receive a 10% penalty for
each additional minute (or part minute).
• Your presentation should briefly describe
your chosen problem, then explain and justify
your proposed solution.
• Do NOT propose multiple solutions.
• Use persuasive information, arguments, and
language to convince your audience to adopt
your proposed solution.
• You MAY structure your presentation using
the “appeal” genre taught in class (but you
don’t have to).
• You MUST speak in English.
• Your face MUST be visible at all times.
• Use appropriate gestures to support your
argument.
• Verbally acknowledge the source of any
information borrowed from other sources,
e.g., “According to the Australian
government, ….”
DO NOT include video clips or music in
your presentation.

11. Critical Reflection – maximum one page
(approximately 200–300 words)
To become an effective presenter, you need to
think critically about your own writing, design and
delivery choices, and understand how your
audience is likely to react to these choices.
Small details – such as the size and colour of the
fonts you choose, or your gestures and vocal
delivery – can make a lot of difference.
This part of the assessment task asks you to think
critically about your presentation and to explain
the writing, design and delivery choices you made
when preparing this assignment.
NOTES:
• Your Critical Reflection should use the
course materials to explain
o your writing choices (e.g., what
persuasive language you used)
o your design choices (e.g., visual
features in your PPT slides)
o your delivery choices.(e.g., your
gestures / vocal quality)
o how you used AI (e.g., what tools you
used and how you changed AI-generated
outputs)
• Use subheadings to organise your Critical
Reflection (e.g., Writing Choices, Design
Choices, Delivery Choices).
• Refer to specific communicative modes and
provide specific examples to illustrate
where/how your work follows the expected
structure and uses the expected linguistic /
visual features of the business presentation
genre.
MGTS7610 Business Presentation Assignment Guide 4

• Do NOT focus on the subject matter of your
presentation. Instead, focus on how you
designed and delivered your presentation.
• Do NOT use bullet points. Use what you
have learned about sentence structure and
clear writing (Week 3) to write in complete
sentences and paragraphs.
• Use the first-person pronoun (“I”) with active
verbs, e.g.,
o I used the Appeal genre to … because…
o I wanted my audience to … So, I
designed my slides using ….
o I altered the presentation generated by
ChatGPT by … because …
Acknowledge ALL of your information
sources (including the course materials)
in a single “Reference List” at the end of
your Critical Reflection.
The Reference List is NOT included in the
word limit for this part of the assignment.
Do NOT copy wording directly from the
Assignment Instructions or any other
source.
OPTIONAL:
• You may like to use some of the following
questions to help formulate your Critical
Reflection.
o What “moves” are made in this
presentation? In which order? Why?
o How did I want my audience to respond
to this presentation? Which elements of
my writing / design / presentation are
designed prompt that response? How
effective do I think this presentation
would be if it were used in “real life”?
Why?
o What kind of persuasive language did I
use in this presentation? Where? Why
did I choose those specific words /
phrases?
o What visual communication strategies
(e.g., colour, font, layout, images) did I
use in my PPT slides? How effective are
they? Why?
o What gestures did I use in this
presentation? How effective are they?
Why?
o What vocal features (e.g., pace,
intonation) did I use? How effective are
they? Why?
• Decide on the most appropriate order for
presenting the information in your Critical
Reflection.
