You are employed as a junior Research Assistant at ‘Fasttrack IT company’ that specialises in Virtual
Reality Technology. Your supervisor has been asked to mentor you to develop your research skills,
critical thinking abilities and equip you with the skills to undertake scoping reviews. ‘Fasttrack IT
company’ has customers from a variety of domain and frequently uses scoping reviews to gain a quick
and broad understanding of their customer’s domain. As part of your training/induction, your
supervisor has asked you to undertake a scoping review on a topic that is of interest to you.
You have been asked to deliver the following artefacts/deliverables:
Task 1: Choosing your research topic and keywords identification
(TOTAL MARKS: 5)
Choosing a topic to investigate
• Go to https://www.sciencedaily.com/news/computers_math/
• Select an article to learn about the cutting-edge research and news on your selected topic. You
may read more than one article on your selected topic.
• What is your selected topic?
• Write a brief description (one paragraph) about what you discovered from the article you read
and how this new technology might affect your future IT career.
• What are the keywords you identified which you can use in your scoping review?
Task 2: Undertake a scoping review
(TOTAL MARKS: 0) – you will receive marks when you write the manuscript.
Undertake a scoping review on your selected topic to get an idea on some of the innovations being
implemented and in development.
Your method should include the following:
• Constructing a search string to find information about your topic? You will need to include the
keywords you identified in Task 1.
• Choose ONE database which you think will have most relevant information.
• What are your inclusion criteria?
• What are your exclusion criteria?

Task 3: Write the manuscript
(TOTAL MARKS: 55)
Manuscript word count
• Word count: 2000 (Marks: 5)
Your manuscript should include the following:
• Description of the emerging technology.
• What the future holds for this technology.
• What is the impact of this technology for your future IT career.
• What is the impact of this technology for a chosen discipline (e.g., health, engineering,
teaching etc.).
• Overall impact of this technology at societal level.
• You may discuss any other interesting features and points.
Your manuscript writing, should use the following format:
• Introduction (Marks: 2)
• Method – Scoping review (Marks: 15)
o Search string and explanation on the process of constructing the search string (4
Marks)
o Explanation on the process of choosing a database (2 Marks)
o Inclusion and exclusion criteria (3 Marks)
o PRISMA flow diagram (6 Marks)

• Results (Marks: 8)
o Should include a table summarising your key finding, trends.
o Synthesise and analyse your results.

o Discuss what the future holds for this technology.
o Discuss what is the impact of this technology for your future career.
o Discuss what is the impact of this technology at societal level.
o Discuss any other pertinent points.
• Conclusion (Marks: 2)
• Overall presentation of the manuscript (Marks: 3)

Task 4: Referencing Requirements
(TOTAL MARKS: 10)
• References – use Harvard referencing style.
o If you use Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools such as ChatGPT, you will need to properly
acknowledge and reference all the AI generated content included in your artefacts.
Failure to reference the AI generated content will result in academic misconduct. You
will not receive marks for what was not your contribution (e.g., if ChatGPT has
contributed 50%, and you contributed 50%, you will receive 50% for your contribution
as your overall mark).
o Use Turnitin
Task 5: 3-Minute Video Presentation
(TOTAL MARKS: 40)
• Record a 3-minute video presentation using Ms Teams.
• You will need to upload this recording as part of your submission.
• Create slides which you will use for your presentation. You will upload these slides.
• Every minute you go overtime, 5 Marks will be deducted.
• Your face and mouth need to be seen in the video recording.
• See Appendix below for presentation marking rubric.
Task 5: Submission Instructions
• Submit on FLO.
• Upload the following files:
o Task 1 (one PDF file)
o Task 3 (one PDF file)
o Video recording
o Presentation slides used for video recording (PDF)
