COURSEWORK (100%): INDIVIDUAL REPORT
COURSEWORK SUBMISSION: 11TH OCT 2024
TASK
Identify and analyse an interpersonal communication situation you have experienced
where a misunderstanding or communication breakdown occurred.
Outline the communication problems, causes of the communication breakdown and
potential solutions by applying what you have learnt in the module and discuss how
various communication strategies may be tapped into to help achieve better
communication outcomes and understanding in the future.
REQUIREMENTS
Your Essay (1,750 words) is divided into two parts:
Part 1: In 875-words, write an essay to discuss the following:
a) The interpersonal communication situation as experienced first-hand which led
to a communication breakdown or misunderstanding.
b) An identification and analysis of the causes for the underlying behaviour (verbal
and non-verbal).
c) A discussion of how the theories and strategies you have learnt will help you to
be more self-aware and thus adjust your interpersonal communication in future.
Part 2: In 875 words write a self-reflective journal discussing your personality traits
and recognising personal strengths and weaknesses. Discuss how your perceived
weaknesses may hamper your professional development, as well as develop a
corresponding SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievement, Realistic and Time-
bound) action plan to address two weaknesses which would help you progress in
your existing or future career.
In presenting this journal, you must include the following theories:
1. Johari’s Window, Myer Brigg’s MBTI model, or Cattel’s traits, in the introduction
of your personality traits.
2. Personal SWOT model in identifying your strengths and weaknesses,
opportunities and threats.
3. A SMART action plan will be applied to address your weaknesses.

On completion of this assessment students would have achieved the following:
1. Appraise different interpersonal communication theories and strategies
relating to individual experiences.
2. Evaluate the tools and techniques for effectively managing communication in
different situations.
