ASSESSMENT 1: QUIZZES
PURPOSE
Each quiz aims to encourage you to read the week’s assigned readings before the lecture. The
readings provide you with the core knowledge required to gain the most from this course. So, your
pre-reading will allow the lectures and tutorials to provide greater value for all by extending upon
that foundation. Participation in lectures and tutorials will thus be focused on refining this core
knowledge and applying the concepts.

FORMAT AND SUBMISSION
Format
• In weeks 1-5, and 7-10, a ten question quiz will be made available via the Moodle subject
website on Monday at 4pm. Each quiz will close 48 hours later on Wednesday at 4pm.
• Ten minutes are allocated to complete each quiz.
• Each quiz may contain multiple-choice, true/false, or short answer questions.
• The score of your best eight quizzes will be summed to provide an overall mark.
• Each quiz contains questions about the content of the week’s readings. Thus, you should
prepare by reading the assigned readings, taking notes so as to engage in active learning
(to enhance recall and understanding of what was read), and ensure that you ask questions
if you do not understand any of the materials.
Submission
• Via a link within the course Moodle site (https://moodle.telt.unsw.edu.au/login/index.php)
• There is no opportunity to retake the quiz or do a quiz that you missed unless an application
for Special Considerations is made and approved.
ASSESSMENT 2: RECOMMENDATIONS REPORT 1
PURPOSE

• Outline SHRM recommendations that flow from the SHRM implications you identified.
• Ensure that you justify these and identify specific actions that will enhance effectiveness.

prepare your Report 2 by confirming if you are approaching your organisational analysis in the
right direction or if you need to be more specific with your recommendations and their justifications.

Evaluation criteria
• You will receive a mark (pass/fail) based on the quality of written peer feedback you provide
Submission
• Via the course Moodle site (https://moodle.telt.unsw.edu.au/login/index.php)

ASSESSMENT 3: RECOMMENDATIONS REPORT 2

PURPOSE
This assignment provides an opportunity for you to demonstrate your high level of understanding
of the course materials covered so far (especially weeks 5-8).

TOPIC
Prepare an evidence-based analysis of an important problem that one or more organisations face
and a persuasive set of HR recommendations for what should be done to address the problem you
identified.

EVIDENCE FOR THE ANALYSES

support your analysis by drawing upon:

interviews, emailed questions, surveys) from one or more of the following people to inform the
report:
• HR managers,
• Employees (future / current / former),
• Line managers, and/or
• Senior managers

STRUCTURE
Report 2 should be designed around two major components:

Section 1: Analyse the organisation’s characteristics and environment to build a strong case for
why the identified problem(s) should be focused upon (versus alternatives) and that clearly
identifies the features of the problem that are the most relevant to understand.
The following are simply illustrative examples of topics that might be addressed. But you can and
should consider alternatives topics as the potential focus of your analysis:

• Demographic change
• A low growth economy
• Low productivity
• Low unemployment

Section 2. Based upon your Section 1 insights, provide actionable recommendations for people
