Presentation Instructions
Due: Friday, 18 October 2024, 11:55 PM
1. Overview

• This Presentation assessment is weighted at 30% of your overall assessment
for this unit, comprising:
• A recorded, narrated, slide presentation, which includes –
• A 15-minute (approximately) presentation. The presentation topics are listed
below.
• Markers will cease assessing the presentation, if it exceeds 20 minutes in
duration.
• Presentations may NOT cover similar subject matter to a topic submitted for
Assessment 1 or 2. If in doubt, please consult your tutor.
• The presentation must be submitted via Moodle by the due date. Late
submissions will be penalised 5% per day (e.g., 70% - 5% = 65%).
• Students must ensure that they have allowed sufficient time to upload their
presentation to Moodle.

2. Presentation requirements:
• Microsoft Powerpoint, Apple Keynote or any other presentation recording
software (e.g., Zoom), is permitted.
• Total size of the submission must be less than 500 megabytes (MB).
• The presentation must include both video of the presenter and the content,
together with the presenter’s audio commentary in the submission.
• Students must utilize in-text citations and include a reference list at the end
of the presentation.
• Students are responsible for ensuring the quality of audio is fit for purpose.

3. Content requirements
• Students should select one of the topics below and argue for or against the
statement.
• Presentations must advance an argument.
• Where applicable, students may choose the case studies/examples they
wish to utilize.
• Credible, scholarly sources should make up the majority of the content.
• The presentation must be substantially original and not rely excessively on
quoting or pasting third-party sources.
4. Presentation topics

Ensure in your presentation that you argue FOR or AGAINST one of the following
topics:

1. Core countries have economically stratified the Indo-Pacific region to
maintain the structure of inequality between the core and peripheral/semi-
peripheral countries.

2. Middle powers have little influence on great powers’ foreign policy decisions.
Discuss with specific reference to ONE middle power’s diplomatic strategy.

3. Choose one of the following Indo-Pacific countries:
- China;
- Japan;
- An ASEAN country
- India).
- [Chosen country] is not serious about its low-carbon transition and
building climate resilience.

4. Australia should develop a nuclear weapons capability alongside its nuclear
submarine fleet.

5. Free trade agreements assist developing countries in the Indo-Pacific by
modernizing their economies and raising incomes and standards of living.

6. The AIIB, BRI and NDB are not designed to aid development; they exist to
further China’s geostrategic objectives in the Indo-Pacific.

7. The decline of US hegemony in the Indo-Pacific would lead to instability and
conflict.

5. Generative AI

AI and Generative AI tools may be used SELECTIVELY within this assessment.
In this assessment, you can use generative artificial intelligence (AI) for one,
more or all of the following tasks:
• To gain familiarity with a topic.
• To create a draft assignment plan.
• To assist with the development of the reference list. This includes maps,
figures,, tables or other reference and statistical data.
• AI and Generative AI tools CANNOT be used to generate the body text for
this assessment.
• AI and Generative AI tools must be acknowledged appropriately. This
assessment must include the following completed statement inserted at the
beginning of the list of bibliographic references in the final slide:

"I acknowledge the use of [insert AI system(s) and link] to [specific use of generative
artificial intelligence]. The prompts used include [list of prompts]. The output from
these prompts was used to [explain use]."
