Assessment Task
Continue to develop a comprehensive software engineering project action plan, including
risk, time and resource management plans, and a detailed analysis of the different solutions
suggested in Assessment 1.
Please refer to the Task Instructions for details on how to complete this task.
Context
In Assessment 1, your group was tasked with developing a solutions-based project proposal
to address a topic of your choice. Your learning facilitator then provided you with helpful
feedback and recommendations on your initial plan, which you must incorporate to further
develop your project action plan and progress report as you would in a real workplace.
A project action plan is a document that is designed to guide and control the execution of
any given project. The project action plan is crucial to the successful completion of the
Page 2 of 8 ATW306_Assessment 2 Option 2_20240603

project, as it clearly provides the steps required to achieve the desired goals to successfully
complete the project.
A project action plan should discuss how you might manage the different risks that arise
during the execution of the project and provide a detailed analysis of the different solutions
suggested in Assessment 1, including any difficulties that arose and how these were
overcome. Preparing a project action plan will prepare your group for the final part of your
development journey; that is, presenting your completed, operational software project.
Instructions

The aim of this assessment is to provide an update on your team’s project (i.e., a progress
report) alongside the project action plan, which will outline the future direction for the
remainder of your team’s project. At this stage, your team should have a thorough
understanding of the project in terms of its feasibility, timeline, costs and resources. This
assessment requires your team to respond to the ‘how’ and ‘why’ queries surrounding your
project.
Please ensure that you cover the following points in your report, as this will prepare you for
the final part of the development process:
• The development methods that you are planning to use for the expected outputs.
• Details of how your team estimated the costs, timeline and resources for the project.
• The complete management plan, including the items listed above.
• The risk management plan for your project (i.e., the potential risks involved in your
approach).
• A justification as to why you selected a particular approach for executing the project
over other approaches.
• A discussion of any ethical implications in your project that may arise in a
professional setting.

Project Action Plan format
The structure of your 2,500-word (+/–10%) complete project action plan should contain the
following sections:
• Overview
o Provide an overview of the purpose, scope and objectives of the project.
• Assumptions and Constraints
o Discuss the assumptions on which the project is based and any imposed
constraints that need to be considered, such as the schedule, the reusability
of any other software and the technology to be employed.
Page 3 of 8 ATW306_Assessment 2 Option 2_20240603

• Project Organisation
o Identify the organisational entities within the project—describe the project’s
internal organisational structure and define the roles and responsibilities of
various team members.
o Identify all team members and their roles
• Managerial Process Plan
o Discuss the project start-up plan, risk management plan and project closeout
plan.
• Technical Process Plan
o Discuss the development process model, technical methods and any tools
and techniques that will be used throughout project development and
implementation.
o Discuss the various approaches that you have shortlisted for the execution of
the project along with the pros and cons of each approach. Additionally,
discuss why you selected a particular approach.
• Ethical Implications
o Discuss the ethical implications of the project.
• References
o Provide in-text citations and a reference list that includes industry-specific
and academic references.
