Instructions for ACCT2511 Assessment 2: Financial
Statement Preparation Quiz

Assessment Opens: Friday, March 21 at 5 pm
Assessment Closes: Friday, March 21 at 6:20 pm
Assessment Duration: 65 Minutes (inclusive of 5 minutes of reading time)

1. The assessment will be open from 5 pm to 6:20 pm on Friday, March 21.
2. You must access the assessment via the ACCT2511 Moodle site. A link to access the assessment
will appear in advance of the assessment date in the “Financial Statement Preparation Quiz
Assessment” section towards the top of the ACCT2511 Moodle site.
3. You will have 65 minutes to complete the assessment once you begin.
4. Please also note that the assessment closes (auto-submits) at 6:20 pm regardless of the time you
started (i.e., if you start at 5:45 pm, you only have 35 minutes to complete the assessment).
5. This is an individual assessment. Students are prohibited from colluding with their peers to complete
the assessment. Students are also prohibited from copying assessment information or taking photos
or any visuals of the assessment content. The only exception to this rule is if you experience technical
difficulties during the assessment. Any student found to breach this policy will be referred to a
business school academic misconduct officer.
6. To provide real-time assistance to students (i.e., technical support), the Lecturer in Charge (Dr
Andrew Dymock) will be available via Zoom for the duration of the assessment.
• We ask that students log in to Zoom for the duration of the assessment. This is not a form of
invigilation (monitoring) and we do not require (or ask) students to turn cameras on during
the assessment.
• The Zoom link will be made available on the day of the assessment in the “Financial Statement
Preparation Quiz Assessment” section of the ACCT2511 Moodle site
• The reason we ask students to log in via Zoom is to enhance their assessment completion
experience. Students can contact the Lecturer in Charge immediately if they experience technical
issues and announcements can be made to all students about the assessment in real-time.
• There is no penalisation if students are unable to log in to Zoom on the day of the assessment.
However, students are expected to report any technical issues that arise via the Zoom link during
the assessment.
• Failure to do say may impact the outcome of any special consideration applications.

Frequently asked questions:
- What topics does the assessment cover?
The assessment will cover the content covered in topics 1 to 3.
- What is the structure of the assessment?
You will be asked questions that examine your ability to record journal entries, adjusting entries, closing
entries and prepare financial statements (income statement and balance sheet only). To assess your ability
to interpret financial statements and make meaningful recommendations for a company, you will also be
given a case study style question. The quiz will involve a mix of multiple-choice style questions and short
answer style questions.
- How do I prepare for the assessment?
The practice assessment provided to you on the ACCT2511 Moodle site is the best preparation (this will be
released on the ACCT2511 Moodle site in the “Financial Statement Preparation Quiz Assessment”
section by the end of Week 4). We would also encourage you to review the tutorial homework and industry
challenge questions and additional questions available on Moodle.
- Is this an open-book assessment?
Yes, it is an open-book assessment with no invigilation.
- Will consultation be available to help my preparation?
Yes, drop-in consultation sessions with the ACCT2511 lecturers are available. Information about these
sessions is available in the “ACCT2511 Lectures & Recordings and Drop-In Consultation Sessions With
Your Lecturers” section of the ACCT2511 Moodle site.
- Can I use generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT) when completing this assessment?
Yes, however, please note that the outputs from these AI tools are not always accurate, appropriate, or
properly referenced. We have tested the questions in your assessment using AI and can confirm that this is
the case, and the answers provided are not accurate. You should ensure that you have moderated and
critically evaluated the outputs from generative AI tools such as ChatGPT before submission.
- What if I am unable to sit the assessment at the designated time?
UNSW has a Fit to Sit/Submit rule, which means that if you sit an exam or submit an assessment, you are
declaring yourself fit to do so and cannot later apply for Special Consideration.
If you are unable to sit the assessment due to illness or other personal matters, you should apply for special
consideration no later than 3 days after the assessment date. You can apply for special consideration here:
https://student.unsw.edu.au/special-consideration
A supplementary assessment will be held in Week 7 at 7 pm on Monday, March 31. It will also be 65 minutes
in duration and cover the same content.
