1 MGB2430: People, Culture and Strategy Assessment 2: Individual report Due Date: Monday 31st March 2025, 9:30 AM Weighting/Value: 30% Details of Task: Students will be given a contemporary topic and asked to analyse certain HR issues, bringing in relevant theories and principles. Word limit: 1500 words (excluding executive summary, TOC and references) The last two decades have seen a major transformation in the way we work, and this has been driven mostly by the Internet of Things (IoT) and the e-economy. Technological advances such as AI have driven employment growth, particularly in the gig economy sector though platforms such as Uber and Airtasker. While there is a lot of potential applications for AI and machine learning in HRM, there are also some concerns around accountability issues such as privacy and the potential for bias (Nankervis et al., 2023). Topic: Strategic Human Resource Planning in the Age of AI: Industry Transformations This topic explores how Strategic Human Resource Planning must evolve in response to AI and robotic technologies, focusing on their impact across the health, retail, education, and hospitality sectors. Discussion Questions: 1. Industry Impacts and HR Automation: How are AI and robotic technologies likely to transform jobs in health, retail, education, or hospitality sectors (choose ONLY 1 sector), and what HR tasks could be automated to better manage these workforce transitions? 2. Employee Concerns and Strategic Planning: What concerns might employees in these sectors have about AI technologies being introduced in both their jobs and HR processes (like recruitment), and how can strategic HR planning address these concerns? 3. Maximizing Benefits and Fairness: How can HR professionals develop strategic plans that both maximize the advantages of new technologies and ensure HR processes remain fair and consistent for all employees during industry transformations? 2 Some useful sources (under assessment 2 on Moodle): Article: Are we there yet?
