PUBL0004 International Political Economy Guidelines for Assessment #2

The task

The second assessment for PUBL0004 will take the form of a 2,000-word essay responding to one of the
prompts below.

Prompts

1 – Do trade agreements harmonise regulation? Should they?
2 – What is the role of formal dispute settlement in international political economy? Answer with
reference to more than one policy area.
3 – When are firms most likely to care about trade and investment agreements?
Expectations
The best essays will present a clear thesis and argument that respond to the prompt and are based on the
relevant academic literature. They should make comprehensive use of the relevant materials assigned on
the module reading list, and draw additional insights from quality examples of unassigned academic
research.
Reference styles must be consistent within the essay and all references must be fully and appropriately
cited. Citation style (APA, MLA, Chicago, Harvard, etc.) does not matter as long as sources are clearly
referenced in an organised manner and can easily be found.
Students are expected be familiar with the relevant policies on late-work submission and academic
integrity. The department takes academic integrity very seriously, and cases of potential academic
dishonesty will be dealt with in accordance with university regulations.
To ensure a smooth marking process, your Turnitin submission must be clearly labelled with your candidate number and
