NATURE OF THE TASK
This task has an individual and group component.
The Video task is a group activity, which will be completed in groups of at least 3 students. Students will be
placed in small groups by their teacher at the beginning of week 4. Each group will be required to produce a 3-
4-minute facts-based short film or documentary about a new media practice. Each member of the group must
appear in the credits of the video alongside their specific roles as well as these being outlined in the production
portfolio. The video will be screened in class and the link to the video must be submitted through the submission
link provided in iLearn.
One member of each group is responsible for submitting their group’s Video by the due date. In the case of late
submission, penalties apply to ALL members of the group.
NOTE: If more than one student in a group submits a file, the first file submitted by the group will be taken as
the submission.
The Production Portfolio is an individual assessment activity and students will receive an individual mark for the
Production Portfolio. For this assessment entries will be worked on in-class from Weeks 3 to 7 and submitted
via Turnitin through the submission link provided in iLearn
MATERIALS REQUIRED / SUGGESTED RESOURCES
To complete the task students will require access to:
• Video recording equipment (smartphones acceptable and encouraged)

• Basic video editing software installed on a laptop
• A file sharing platform such as OneDrive, Google docs etc. to share documents with your group
members
• Internet access
HOW TO PRESENT YOUR ASSIGNMENT
For the Group Video:
This is a GROUP exercise.
Videos must incorporate research (e.g. academic quotes statistical data and/or reference real life news events)
and should aim to be engaging for the audience.
Each member of the group's role must be clearly outlined in the credits, and preferably, they should appear in
the video in some way, either through voiceover, presenting, or as a cameo.
Videos should include a variety of planned shots that use composition techniques learned in the course such
as different camera angles, panning, close-ups, rule of thirds, consideration of mise-en- scene etc.
Additional images and short excerpts sourced elsewhere may be used as long as they do not violate copyright
and are clearly referenced.
A reference list must be included citing any images/stills/music and/or academic sources. For this unit
references will use APA 7 style.
For the Production Portfolio:
This is an INDIVIDUAL exercise.
The production portfolio is an extremely important part of this assessment. Each group member must submit
their own personal production portfolio to iLearn.
It must comprise of five entries (300-350 words each). Supporting information such as scripts, storyboards, shot
lists, call sheets, test shots etc. must be incorporated in your submission file, as well as any visual references
you draw from (these are NOT included in the overall word count.)
Your portfolio should cover the production phases including idea generation, pre-production, production, post-
production and post-presentation. Provide at least one piece of supporting information for each phase.
Overall entries must be research based and contain a critique of the process and clear exploration of the new
media topic. They should comprise of a record of informed production decisions, references to research
conducted and use appropriate media terminology. Problems encountered must be addressed along with
solutions and/or lessons learned. In addition, each group member's role must be discussed and evaluated.
Evidence and statistics must be recent – post 2021 where preferable.
All sources must be cited, including images and video links must appear in the reference list using appropriate
academic referencing style. For this unit references will use APA 7 style.
Production Portfolio (DRAFTS) – Formative Feedback Task (Optional Task)
Students, on an ongoing basis throughout the Term, will be guided to collect a portfolio of content, which will be
combined at the end of Term to create the final submission.
Drafts of content may be submitted; (within provided time guidelines), in order that students have opportunities
to receive feedback. Only the complete Production Portfolio will attract marks. Please consult your teacher if
you have any queries regarding how to approach the task.
Draft: Ideas generation - Due Friday, Week 4 by 11.55pm
Draft: Pre-Production & Production - Due Friday Week 6 by 11.55pm

LATE SUBMISSIONS
Late submissions are possible, but they will be penalised unless the student has been granted an approved
extension (refer to the Special Consideration Policy). Late penalties will be calculated based on the total
possible marks allocated to the specific assessment task. The penalty for late submission is as follows:
• 5% of the total possible marks will be deducted if it is late by up to 24 hours.
• A further 5% of the total possible marks will be deducted for each 24-hour period up to 3 days (including
weekends).
• 100% of the marks will be deducted after 3 days and zero marks will be awarded.
Please note that online submissions are electronically tracked, and the electronic record of submission will be
used to determine late penalties. This means that submitting your work even a few seconds after the allocated
deadline will result in a late submission which will attract the penalty noted above. There is no flexibility with the
applying of penalties as they must be applied fairly and consistently to all students.
RETENTION OF RECORDS
Student are required to keep a copy of all items submitted or completed for the purpose of assessment or
evaluation until the end of the grade appeal period.
