ANTH0151 202425 Assignment 1 of 1 4 ANTH0151 Creative Product Development – Gregory Thompson ANTH0151 Assignment 01 Briefing Sheet: Creative Product Development The aim of this Creative Product Development module is to make enterprise ideas manifest: to help you take the steps that turn your enterprise ideas into something that you can make or do that someone is prepared to pay for. You will gain valuable experience understanding what is involved in delivering your product or service in a way that accords with your vision of your enterprise. You will turn your enterprise ideas into deliverable actions and objects and create a series of “Product Zeros” to get fast immersive user feedback. Throughout the term you will engage with creative thinking to articulate the essential act of your enterprise and to produce a series of experiments. You will identify what is testable and doable, embarking on a series of BUILD / RELEASE / LEARN cycles enabling you to iterate and improve your initial insight with tangible user data. The Project Portfolio details your journey creating a series of “product zeros” that deliver the essential act, or aspects of the essential act, of your enterprise. Students are required to use a scratch methodology (“start before you are ready”) in conjunction with creative processes from other parts of the course and draw upon the practices of lean startup, design thinking, and frugal innovation. By the end of this module you might have: a clear articulation of your “Product One”; evidence that shows you can deliver the value at the heart of your enterprise; a functional prototype or prototypes; or (even) paying customers. Learning outcomes to be assessed: 1. The ability to distill a startup enterprise idea into a clear offer of value. 2. Showing the required steps to deliver this value, or an aspect of this value, to customers. 3. Understanding of the course framework and the application of it by implementing a series of Product Zeros. 4. The ability to make and repeat a Build-Release-Learn cycle for product development. 5. The ability to reflect on and learn from Product Zero experiments. Submission requirements. ANTH0151: Creative Product Development is examined by a Project Portfolio of three Product Zero iterations with accompanying commentary. (100%). ANTH0151 202425 Assignment 1 of 2 4 Assignment Description A Portfolio of 3 Product Zero experiments. Drawing upon the ideas and exercises given in class, create a portfolio of 3 Build-Release-Learn cycles demonstrating (aspects of) how you deliver value to your customers. Your commentary will include the brief or challenge you set yourself and a reflective diary and description of the processes, outcomes and modifications followed. The Portfolio will show how decisions and actions have been shaped by differentiating your product or service, by embodying the values of your enterprise, and by learning from doing. The Portfolio will include evidence generated by your Product Zeros that substantiate your Plan or Pitch. Marking Criteria and Rubric Context. Introduction of the product development journey with clarity and articulating the essential act of the enterprise. (10%). Choices. Show how your product zero choices been clarified and developed by exploring elements of your enterprise including differentiation, specialisation, criteria, enquiry, values, and customer engagement. (10%). Build-Release-Learn. A series of 3 product zero experiments to deliver aspects of your product or service to real-world customers. This should include a clear target customer or customers; clear and specific product test objectives; and creative strategies to deliver these objectives. (50%). Validation. Show how your 3 Product Zero activities validate your enterprise by adding evidence to your Quick Pitch, and/or your One Page Plan. (30%). This assignment is worth 100% of the overall assessment for this course. Students must complete their Project Portfolio individually but may collaborate on any or all of their Product Zeros. Please label your file: “ANTH0151 XXXXX” where XXXXX is your Student Candidate Number. Date work set: Thursday 16th January 2025. Due date: 1300 on Thursday 10th April 2025. Target date for return of marked work and feedback: Thursday 8th May 2025. ANTH0151 202425 Assignment 1 of 3 4 Assignment context: The core objective of this course is that students create (or work towards) a Product One by developing series of Product Zeros that deliver aspects of their product or service for particular target customers using the frameworks offered during the course. The assignment is an opportunity to work on your own enterprise idea and create a cycle of product development prototypes that builds up to a full product or service offering investigating how value can be added for customers. The Project Portfolio should include: – the context of your enterprise, its essential act and your niche market for startup; – your product development choices with rationale and prioritisation detailing how you set your first product apart and how you define your unique place in the market; – the learnings and development of your product or service through several Build-Release-Learn cycles, and possible next steps; – an articulation of your customer promise and how your product zeros enable you to keep that promise; – the validation slides from a Quick Pitch deck that result from your Product Zero tests; and/or – the validation able to be added to the One Page Plan as a result of your Product Zero tests. Preparation: Students should have attended all seminar workshops, completed all the exercise sheets, and made a progress presentation for formative assessment in February 2025. Formative assessments: 6th and 13th February 2025. A 2 minute presentation to the class that (1) demonstrates one Product Zero exploring how your product or service delivers value to your customers; and (2) your plans for two more Product Zeros to complete the Portfolio to be submitted in April.
