APPENDIX 2: PLO GRADUATION STANDARDS This document shows the required graduation standards of our students in each of the PLOs PLO 2 – Problem Solving –Graduation thresholds Students will define and address business problems, and propose effective evidence-based solutions, through the application of rigorous analysis and critical thinking. Criteria Graduation (Assurance) 1. Identify a problem or issue, relevant questions and purpose of task for critical analysis • Adapt problem solving strategies to deal with ambiguity • Ability to redefine problems as new information becomes available • Ability to break a large complex problem into its component aspects and ensure that the solutions are consistent across all the aspects • Predict and mitigate unintended consequences: 2. Apply rigorous analysis, appropriate frameworks, tools, and standards to develop and/or evaluate data • Concern with critical inquiry and innovative/entrepreneurial thinking (in final year synthesis) • Ability to work in teams to solve problems. Exposure to multidisciplinary teamwork (Link to PLO 4) • Use these problem solving methodologies to (re)solve complex and ambiguous problems • Ability to apply a variety of thinking and analysis tools to complex problems • Ability to identify and use relevant information to make decisions • Able to critically access the reliability of source • Ability to integrate ethical criteria into any purely technical analysis 3. Develop well-reasoned, appropriate conclusions or solutions • Lead a group to being able to prioritise alternative solutions based on a deliberative process • Have well developed strategies for managing conflict over choosing the best solution • Be able to clearly articulate all the reasons for and against a solution • Be able to present more than solution as viable or even equally good and explain the criteria against which these judgements would be made • Map out ways in which solutions can fail as circumstances change and suggest alternatives for the likely potential failures 4. PLO 3 – Communication –Graduation thresholds Students will harness, manage and communicate business information effectively using multiple forms of communication across different channels. Criteria Graduation (Assurance) 1. Demonstrates proficiency in reading, writing, listening and speaking English • Excellent word selection, and exemplary grammar and spelling • Excellent structure and organisation • Mainly accurate and adequate referencing • Speaks clearly and varies pace and tone to create meaning • Effectively interprets, translates and paraphrases written texts/spoken language 2. Gathers useful information via face-to-face, written, and/or digital mediums • Collects sufficient, accurate and relevant information for task • Discovers and interprets information about audience requirements and preferences, and purpose of communication • Applies active listening and interpersonal communication skills to engage audience and address questions/issues raised • Applies highly effective search and management strategies to obtain relevant and valid information from digital sources 3. Combines information and communication skills to effectively address a specific audience and purpose • Expertly applies appropriate conventions for audience and purpose • Actively engages audience through use of language, tone and non-verbal communication • Utilises communication at a professional level • Uses highly effective interpersonal skills to establish relationships with audience and establish two-way communication • Achieves purpose of communication through effectively sharing central message, key points and/or conclusion with audience 4. Uses language, visual representation, and/or digital media to effectively & accurately interpret and convey qualitative and quantitative information. • Qualitative and/or qualitative data is interpreted and explained clearly with explicit relevance to audience and purpose • Uses graphical formats to simplify and effectively communicate the relevance and application of complex data • Effectively employs high quality visual representation which provide insight into processes, relationships • Uses images and design aspects to professional standard which highlight and enhance understanding of key ideas/messages PLO 4 – Teamwork –Graduation thresholds Students will interact and collaborate effectively with others to achieve a common business purpose or fulfil a common business project, and reflect critically on the process and the outcomes. Criteria Graduation (Assurance) 1. Collaborates effectively with other to achieve team outcomes • Collaborates effectively on unstructured collaborative tasks • Generates valuable ideas in a team environment • Contributes to team collegiality through application of effective interpersonal and conflict management skills and pre- emptively manages potential conflict • Gives and receives feedback in a positive and constructive manner and engages in peer coaching • Actively supports team planning, goal setting, task co-ordination and monitoring of progress 2. Demonstrates reflective practice in evaluating team participation of self and others • Analyses some aspects of other team members’ contributions and/or team processes, and provides some evaluation of team collegiality and effectiveness • Applies appropriate theory/principles/frameworks to support reflection, analysis and evaluation of team performance • Clearly identifies area for personal and team development and makes practical suggestions for improvements to future teamwork processes PLO 5 – Responsible Business Practice - Graduation thresholds Students will develop and be committed to responsible business thinking and approaches, which are underpinned by ethical professional practice and sustainability considerations. Criteria Graduation (Assurance) 1. Apply relevant ethical frameworks to business decisions / practice • Recognise and resolve ethical dilemmas relevant to each of the disciplines, in complex, multi-layered contexts. • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of relevant professional or disciplinary codes, and their underlying principles. • Outline key features of the regulatory environment and how these features can support ethical practice. • Recognise the role of mental models (social-cultural) and cognitive biases (individual) in shaping what we see and what we think is important. • Demonstrates critically reflective self-awareness, discussing and analysing core personal beliefs and their sources with clarity. • Develop skills and confidence to act as moral agents. 2. Evaluate business decisions / practice in light of economic, social and environmental sustainability • Reflect on the internal and external factors that enable or constrain ethical and sustainable practice. • Become familiar with alternative (to financial) definitions of performance at individual, organizational and macro levels and explain how they shape business practice. • Identifies & critically examines the full range of sustainability aspects in any given situation, recommending and justifying an appropriate response. • Defines sustainability as a complex process of adaptive management and systems thinking across disciplines and sub- discipline areas. • Demonstrates knowledge of certain aspects of sustainability processes such as lifecycles, stakeholder interpretation and the circular economy. PLO 6 – Global and Cultural Competence –Graduation thresholds Students will be aware of business systems in the wider world and actively committed to recognise and respect the cultural norms, beliefs and values of others, and will apply this knowledge to interact, communicate and work effectively in diverse environments. Criteria Graduation (Assurance) 1. Demonstrate awareness of the global business environment • Demonstrates understanding of why it is important to be respectful and inclusive in the context of dealing with institutions and organisations in the global business environment 2. Demonstrate awareness of cultural environment and articulate norms, beliefs and values • Clearly articulates how diverse cultural norms, beliefs, and values can impact the global business environment • Demonstrates openness, inclusiveness, and respect for different perspectives of individuals in the global business environment 3. Apply cultural and global competence to work effectively in a culturally diverse environment • Applies appropriate theory/frameworks and a high-level of cultural intelligence in dealing in a culturally diverse environment through group work using case studies • Demonstrates cultural and global competence by taking opportunities by participating in virtual internship or overseas exchange program or short local work experience or in other activities. These are likely to be discipline-specific such as qualifying for CPA/CA accreditations. 4. Analyse and evaluate business decisions/practice or propose a strategy in a culturally diverse context • Applies cultural and global competence in analysing prior business decisions/practices to show what may have gone wrong • Evaluates and proposes business strategies in a culturally diverse context using case studies • Shows understanding of why inclusivity is important in the global business environment PLO 7 – Leadership development –Graduation thresholds PLO 7: Leadership Development: Students will develop the capacity to take initiative, encourage forward thinking and bring about innovation, while effectively influencing others to achieve desired results. Criteria Graduation (Assurance) 1. Demonstrate capacity for self-leadership and learning from reflection on experience. • Capacity to reflect on experience and identify future learning and self-development opportunities • Evaluate achievement of goals and progress on personal development plan 2. Generate, develop and/or evaluate innovative ideas and concepts. • Identify, apply and evaluate creative, innovative solutions through innovative thinking, ideation and concept development to address societal and business problems and related strategies to implement them 3. Select and apply relevant leadership approaches and skills to influence others to innovate, change, and achieve desired results. • Confidently lead teams to achieve desired results • Foster positive collaboration, creativity and innovation in teams • Harness persuasive communication practice to influence and motivate others
