Assignment (Summative) – Research Proposal (summative assignment 1)
Hand in date: 11am, Monday 30th June 2025
The assignment requires a research proposal outlining the research choices underlying your
Individual Research Project (IRP).
You need to organise this assessment around a question-based or pitch-based format
whereby learners choose a topic to consider from the four choices outlined Corporate
Finance (Governance), Investing (ESG) Reports, Accounting, and Economics and Finance
research design sessions. For this assignment outline the specific research question you wish
to consider, the research design you deem as appropriate to follow, identify the data to
collect from the University of York datasets and outline the statistical methods you wish to
deploy in your IRP. These choices will be accompanied by a brief discussion of the following
issues:
(A) Working Title and Basic Research Question
(B) Key academic paper(s) in this field of study
(C) Motivation/Puzzle, Idea?
(D) Data?
(E) Tools and Techniques employed?
(F) What’s New? So What? Contribution?
(G) Other Considerations
It is essential in this proposal that you discuss why the decisions made are appropriate and
incorporate a critical interpretation of the decisions made.
Format: The formative coursework assignment is to be of length not exceeding 1000 words,
including any footnotes, but excluding the contents’ page and appendices/annexes and
references. The coursework should be developed using size 12 font with 1.5 line spacing.
Please make sure that the references are made in an acceptable (Harvard referencing style)
format. The format of the coursework must include an introduction, a conclusion and
references.
