ASSESSMENT 1: WEEKLY QUIZ

PURPOSE
Each quiz aims to encourage you to read and engage with the week’s assigned readings and lecture
materials. The lecture content and readings provide you with the core knowledge required to gain the
most from this course. So, your pre-reading will allow the lectures and tutorials to provide greater
value for all by extending upon that foundation.

FORMAT AND SUBMISSION
Format
• Students will complete a quiz during five randomly selected lectures during the term in weeks
2-5, and 7-10.
• Each quiz will be made available during the lecture. It must be undertaken and submitted “in
person” during the lecture.
• Ten minutes are allocated to complete each quiz.
• Each quiz may contain multiple-choice, true/false, or short answer questions.
• The score of your best four of the five quizzes will be summed to provide an overall mark.
• Each quiz contains questions about the content of the week’s readings and/or lecture content.
Thus, you should prepare by reading the assigned readings, taking notes so as to engage in
active learning (to enhance recall and understanding of what was read), and ensure that you
ask questions if you do not understand any of the materials.
Submission
• Via a link within the course Moodle site (https://moodle.telt.unsw.edu.au/login/index.php)
• There is no opportunity to retake the quiz or do a quiz that you missed unless an application
for Special Considerations is made and approved.

ASSESSMENT 2a: Participation: Modules

FORMAT AND SUBMISSION
Format
• In each week from week 2 onwards, you will be assigned a course content module to complete
during your scheduled tutorial.
• Details on the specific requirements of each module will be provided in tutorials. However, as
an illustration, a typical module submission might be based upon the results of a tutorial
activity and/or the conclusions that you drew from a tutorial activity/discussion.
• The highest scoring six of the eight modules that are assigned will be averaged to provide an
overall mark.
Submission
• During a tutorial, your tutor will provide you with information on how to submit your work. This
submission will typically be during the tutorial to your tutor in paper form, or via an upload to,
or completion of a task within, the course Moodle site.
• There is no opportunity to retake a module that you missed unless an application for Special
Considerations is made and approved.

ASSESSMENT 2b: Participation: Class participation

FORMAT AND SUBMISSION
In each tutorial your extent and quality of participation in activities and related discussion will be
assessed by your tutor. Via this participation, you will build and solidify your understanding of how
analytics works in work and organisational settings, and the broaden your knowledge in the
application of data analysis methods, interpretation, and representation. This will provide a foundation
for your analytics competencies and enhance your ability to complete assessments in this course.
Format
• The score of your tutorial participation across weeks 2-5, and 7-10 will be averaged to provide
an overall mark. This calculation will be based upon the highest six of the eight weekly
participation marks available.
Submission
• Directly assessed by the tutor or via submissions using link in the course Moodle site (where
applicable)
• There is no opportunity to retake a submission or redo a tutorial that was missed unless an
application for Special Considerations is made and approved.

ASSESSMENT 3: CASE STUDIES

FORMAT AND SUBMISSION

types, manipulation, analysis, and visualisation. The case study exercises are designed to develop
this expertise.
Format
• In weeks 4, 7, 8, and 9 you will complete and submit a video in which you describe how you
completed the assigned case study and what the findings were.
• Video presentation (5 minutes maximum). You will prepare a narrated PowerPoint (or other
presentation software) using the instructions provided in Moodle in section “Assessment: 3”
and upload this video to UNSW One Drive. As the final step, you must submit that UNSW One
Drive URL along with your other materials in Moodle.
• Information on how to access the activity will be provided on the course Moodle site.

• There is no opportunity to retake a submission or redo a submission that you missed unless
an application for Special Considerations is made and approved.
