Objective Investigate multiprocessing to manipulate images.
Description
Part 1 Write a simple program to convert an image to just its red, green, or
blue values. Sample source forthcoming
Part 2 Investigate the use of fork() to create child process(es) to manipulate
the image. Your program should be able to split the image into at most 16
sections. Each subprocess should process a specific image.
Tip: Start small – two sections (either horizontal or vertical). Subdivide
further.
Part 3 Determine how long it takes to process the image for different num-
bers of sections (up to 16 sections).
Deliverables
• Program Design – Design your program.
• Program Log – Date and times of actions.
• Programs—fully documented. All functions should be fully documented
also.
• Output—Neatly formatted and documented.
• Summary—a discussion of your findings, i.e., the effects of your appli-
