ASSESSMENT ONE
REFLECTIVE WIKI
Grades: 20%
Due date: 20 August, 5pm. This is ‘time sensitive’.
Words: 500 + 1 or more images
Demonstrate your ability to:
? Meet deadlines
? Reflect on your use of media throughout your life
? Apply the “tetrad” concept from McLuhan to your
chosen media
? Use industry-appropriate content management
system (CMS) to produce content
Wiki pages will be shared with the class on completion
INSTRUCTIONS
You will be given access to a personal wiki page via the
Assessments tab on Moodle.
You will need to write a reflection about two
technologies from your life, then analyse each of these
using one of the concepts from McLuhan’s tetrad
system.
McLuhan’s tetrad will be explained in Week 2.
You will need at least one photo associated with one of
these technologies.
Screenshots, your own photos, etc, all fine.
Avoid just downloading an image from the Internet

EXAMPLES
Assessment One is Time Sensitive
Time Sensitive assessment:
? Late submissions = grade of zero.
? Assessment One leads directly into Assessment Two
? You will work in small groups on each other’s wiki pages in Week Five
? This means that we need to ensure that everyone submits on time.
? The only exception to this is Special Consideration granted by the the
Special Consideration team. This is for serious personal circumstances
only.

INSTRUCTIONS
You will be automatically put into groups in your
tutorial in week 5, and you will get a group wiki page
assigned.
In class:
? You will read each other’s wiki pages
? Collaborate in Google Docs and summarise your
group’s thoughts about technology and about the
tetrad concept.
? Paste your writing from Google Docs into the
Moodle Wiki, add any images you’d like.
? You will present your wiki pages at the end of class.
SUGGESTED STRUCTURE
Introduce the team
Link to each person’s wiki page
Bullet point any common observations about technology.
Emphasise any observations that your group thinks are
particularly effective or interesting from within your team’s
individual wiki pages.
Write a few short sentences summarising your group’s
thoughts about any tendencies in your use of the tetrad.
This will be presented at the end of class, so emphasise
readability over complex paragraphs.
You can use any images, photos, diagrams, gifs, etc that you
want.
QUIZ
In week 6 you will be sent a quiz of five short-answer questions to
reflect on the groupwork process.
Each question only needs a one-sentence response. You can write
more if you wish
Responses will be validated to ensure that you submit a genuine
reflection
This is a pass/fail assessment. If you complete it, you will
automatically get 10%.
