Q3 (80 points) In this question, you are going to produce graphical trends of the labour market during the Covid pandemic in Canada. This will help you learn how to work with data in relatively simple ways, creating presentable figures, and of course, is very topical to the current situation. Load the labour force survey into Stata. Drop all data associated with years before 2018 (“help drop”). Below are the graphs you need to make. In all figures, make sure the graphs are clearly and nicely labeled! Substantial marks will be deducted if the graph is not labeled or readable. Remember to use survey weights. A. Figure 1: Graph the average monthly employment rate and the monthly labour force participation rate in between January 2018 and July 2021, on the same graph. Make sure the two series are labeled (“help legend”)! What does the difference between the two series represent? B. Figure 2: I want you to normalize the employment rate to 1 in February 2020, then re-plot the employment rate trends. To do so, figure out the employment rate in February 2020 – call this X. Then, divide the monthly employment rates by X. The Stata code I provided you has an example of how to do this for the unemployment rate --- the two figures below show the unemployment rate, and the unemployment rate normalized to 1 in February 2020. The next four figures ask you to graph the monthly employment rate in different sub-populations. C. Figure 3: The variable “NOC_10” classifies individuals according to the occupation of their main job. There are 10 categories, too many to plot on a single graph. Instead, pick graph the average monthly employment trends for each, on the same graph, for (1) Management Occupations, (2) Business, finance, and administration occupations, (3) Health Occupations, (4) Sales and Service Occupations, (5) Trades and Transportation, and (6) Manufacturing. D.Figure 4: Graph average monthly employment rate for each education group (edugrp) E. Figure 5: Graph average monthly employment rate for each gender (sex) F. Finally, explore the data (during the 2019-2021 period) -- find ONE trend/fact/pattern that you find interesting, create ONE figure illustrating it, and write a short paragraph explaining it. You have wide latitude here. It doesn't have to be a figure in the same format as those above. UPLOAD RESULTS TO THE QUESTIONS ABOVE AS ONE PDF. INCLUDE CODE IN THE LAST PAGE(S) OF THE PDF. ONE OPTION FOR DOING SO: IN THE STATA DO-FILE EDITOR, CLICK FILE > PRINT > PRINT TO PDF. THEN COMBINE THAT PDF WITH YOUR RESULTS PDF.
