Suicide Among Youths

Background:
According to the Goh (2020), suicide continues to be the leading cause of death for
youths in Singapore, with a total of 71 people aged 20 to 29 taking their own lives.
Unfortunately, youth suicide is “not only a Singaporean problem but a regional one.
Other countries, such as Japan, are also logging alarmingly high figures.” ( Kentaro,
2019)
Write an essay (600 – 800 words), highlighting the key reasons behind this trend in a
country of your choice. Please include suggestions / measures that parents, or schools
can take to reverse the trend.

Writing Task
Write a 600 to 800-word essay which includes the following
Content
1) Introduction – attract your readers’ attention, state how important the topic is.
End the paragraph with a detailed thesis statement.
2) Body – elaborate on key reasons behind the trend. Please include research
evidence, complete with in-text citation and end-text references, to support your
main ideas.
You may use one of the body paragraphs to discuss ideas / measures that
parents/schools can implement to reverse the trend.
3) Conclusion – summarize your essay and offer your overall evaluations /
prediction of the future.

Organisation / Format
* Use suitable paragraphing to organize the main points of your essay. The
recommended length is 5 paragraphs.
* Given that this is a short essay, a cover page and content page are NOT required.
* Headers / Sub-headers are NOT required.
* The end-text referencing will not be considered in the word count.


References
List any sources of information that you have used with in-text citations and, an end-
text reference list. The recommended documentation style is APA (6th edition). Refer
