1. For the structure in Figure 1, first determine the degree of static indeterminacy. Then draw
clear sketches of
a. bending moment diagram,
b. shear force diagram and
c. deformed shape, indicating points of contraflexure.
and explain the steps you went through to get the final solutions.
2. For the structure in Figure 2 find the following by using the slope deflection method:
a. determine the number of unknown displacements and sketch them,
b. calculate unknown displacements and draw the deformation diagram,
c. calculate bending moments and sketch the diagram,
d. calculate and sketch the shear force diagram (based on the previously calculated
bending moment diagram),
e. find axial force diagram by using equations of force equilibrium at joints and
f. find all reaction forces/moments.
3. For the structure in Figure 2, by using the stiffness matrix method, do the following :
a. sketch a local coordinate system for each element,
b. sketch all degrees of freedom,
c. determine the number of unknown displacements and list them,
d. calculate unknown displacements,
e. calculate and sketch bending moment, shear force and axial force diagrams,
