ASSESSMENT
The assessment for this module is an individual essay. It aims to give you an opportunity to explore
topics covered in the module in a greater depth. You are required to demonstrate not only your
understanding of the key issues in management information systems but also your independent study
skills by drawing on academic literature and case studies to support your argument.
LENGTH OF ESSAY
The word count for your overall answer is 3000 (+/- 10%).
WORD COUNT
A figure for the total word count should be written on the cover sheet of the report. If no figure for the
total word count is written on the report or the word count is found to be inaccurate, there will be a
penalty. Also, there will be a penalty of word count outside (under or over) the range. Total word count
should exclude the Title page, bibliography and appendices. More details regarding the departmental
penalty scheme for over/under length assessed work can be found in the Student’s Handbook.
DEADLINE
The assignment should be submitted via Turnitin on 19/01/2022 at the latest. Penalties for late
submission will be applied if the work is submitted later than the above specified time and date. Details
of penalties for late submission can be found in the Student’s Handbook.
If you encounter any problems during the electronic submission of your coursework, you should
immediately contact the module coordinator and the Information School Exams Team (is-teaching-
support@sheffield.ac.uk). This does not negate your responsibilities to submit your coursework on time
and correctly.
You are required to answer one of the questions below. Ensure that you illustrate your essay with
academic literature and case studies to support your arguments.
1. Discuss how industry 4.0 technologies such as Internet of Things (IoT), big data and
artificial intelligence are transforming Enterprise systems and what are the challenges
faced by the management of when using industry 4.0 technologies in Enterprise systems.
2. SCM systems have been found to be too complex and costly to be used in small to medium
sized enterprises (SMEs). Cloud-based SCM systems are deemed an alternative supply
chain integration solution more suitable for SMEs. Discuss the potential impact and risk
for supply chain leaders in SME.
