Question 1 (4 marks)
Questions 1 and 3 of the Sample Lab Exam use the remote lab practical setup in
Figure 1.
Figure 1
IMPORTANT: Keep relay switches S1, S2 and S6 open for Question 1.
Set the signal generator to give a sine wave with a frequency of 1 kHz. Display this signal
on the oscilloscope in channel 1 (V1). Select the oscilloscope time base to see 5 complete
periods of the signal on the screen. Select a suitable vertical scale for the oscilloscope
and adjust the signal magnitude of the generator to give 4 volts peak-to-peak.

Question 2 (4 marks)
Question 2 of the Sample Lab Exam uses the remote lab practical setup in Figure 2.

IMPORTANT: Keep relay switches S1 and S6 open for all of Question 2. Close relay
switch S2 for this question.
Using the remote lab practical setup in Figure 2, configure the circuit shown in Figure
3 and measure the voltage V3 and the current I2 with the digital multi-meter. Write the
recorded voltage/current values and the required relay status (open or closed) for
each relay in Table 1.

Question 3 (6 marks)
Question 3 of the Sample Lab Exam uses the remote lab practical setup in Figure 1.
Using the remote lab practical setup in Figure 1, configure the circuit shown in Figure
3, but replace the 5 V dc power supply with the signal from the signal generator (as
specified in Question 1). Display the voltage across the resistor R1 on the
oscilloscope. Remember that the ground of both voltage probes must be connected to
the circuit ground. Take a screenshot of this waveform and paste this in the box
below.

Question 4 (6 marks)
Question 4 of the Sample Lab Exam uses the remote lab practical setup in Figure 4.

IMPORTANT: Keep relay switches S1 and S2 open for Question 4. Close relay switch S6
for this question.
Figure 5
Set the signal generator to output a square wave of amplitude 4 V peak to peak and of
frequency 1 kHz. Use the oscilloscope to display the signal generator waveform and the
voltage across the capacitor with the falling edge of the signal generator waveform
centred on the screen with one full cycle of both waveforms displayed.
