Content:
1) Teaching reflection 5%
➢
Please read and critique one of the following syllabi based on the key
concepts discussed in the weekly readings (week 2-6), our classroom
discussions,
and/or your own language teaching experiences. For the Arabic, Chinese 2
and Italian syllabi, they contain more than one lesson
plan. You
only need to choose one lesson plan or a learning episode to critique.
Please indicate the lesson plan or learning episode that you
intend to critique.

Rubric:
Critical reflection (3%)
- Writing reflects understanding and critical thought of the concepts discussed in the readings, and draws on a
balance of personal experience and academic literature or teaching experience.
Clarity (2%)
- Writing is lucid and clear, leading the reader to fully understand your point and any evidence presented.
- References are cited appropriately.
- Length is as required.
2) Lesson plan 10%
You
will develop a 40-minute lesson plan using a similar template and
provide a short commentary grounding the lesson plan in key concepts
discussed in week 5 (interaction) & 6 (grammar) readings.
Rubric:
Lesson plan (2%)
- All content and resources required for instructions are clearly stated, including the elements in the template.
- Objectives, learning outcomes/can-do statements and instruction activities are closely connected.
- Objectives clearly describe content and skills that students will understand and learn.

Learning outcome/can-do statements are specific and assessable. They
reflect knowledge and skills that students can demonstrate.
- Content appropriate to age/proficiency level and ties to objectives/ can-do statements.
- Enhance retention and transfer are closely related to lesson objectives.
Instructional planning (4%)
- Instruction activities provide a logical path to meet objectives.
- Instruction activities are meaningful, sequential and well thought out.
- Instruction activities are appropriate for age and proficiency level.
- Each step of the activity is clearly described and timed.

A list of target vocabulary and sentence structures are provided for
each activity. The list can be the same or different depending on
your lesson objectives.
- Weekly readings (meaningful interaction and grammar instruction in context) are reflected on instructional planning.
- At least 3 activities should be included in the lesson plan.
Commentary (2%)
- Rationale behind each activity is discussed.
- Integration of meaningful interactions and grammar instructions in context are discussed.
Learning/supporting materials (2%)
- Learning/supporting materials are clear, complete, and appealing to students. Materials enhance lesson significantly.
- Effective use of technology (e.g. videos, ppt).
Note:
1. Learning materials can be saved in one WORD, PDF or PPT (please make it clear which activities the materials belong to) and
submitted together with the lesson plan or separately in other formats (e.g. ppt or media).
2. You can provide the link of the video in the lesson plan template if you intend to use it as part of your activity.
