Requirements for Book Review (Final Essay)

After reading a book from the reading list provided (see p2), you should create a 4-5 pages (Double-spaced, Font Size 12)
review/critique of the text following the rubrics provided (see p5). The three parts that must be included in the review are as follows:
• Summarize the main points of the book and critique them.
• Demonstrate your understanding of this book by exhibiting connection between the Chinese and North American cultures &
societies, or, with your personal experiences.
• Reflect upon and describe what you have learned from reading the book.
You should finish reading at least half of the book and write an outline following the format and rubrics provided below (see p3 and
p4) at the beginning of March. The outline of book review (10%) is due on Mar 2, 2022 (Wednesday). And the final essay (25%),
which is a review of the whole book, is due on Apr 4, 2022 (Monday)). The final essay may deviate from standard APA format in
that you may write in the first person pronoun. All citations, however, must be made using APA format (requiring a cover page, in-
text citations, and a works cited page). You should follow Purdue OWL: APA Formatting and Style Guide. All submissions should
include a title page with the student’s name, student ID number, date of submission and title, along with the numbered pages of the
essay. You need submit both the outline and book review into the drop boxes set up on LEARN.

Important dates:
1. Due date for the book review outline: Mar 2, 2022 (Wednesday).
2. Due date for the book review (final essay): Apr 4, 2022 (Monday).
