one of United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals.
 This assignment is to be undertaken as a group of 4 or 5 students.
 It is worth 25% of your overall Marks.
 Assignment is due on Week 8 Friday April 8, 2022 at 5pm.
 It has to be submitted electronically via Turnitin in Moodle.
 There is one deliverable for this assignment: a report of 3,500 words maximum (+/-

 You are expected to manage your time and deliverables accordingly via Trello
https://trello.com

The following sets out the scenario and requirements for the assignment. Please read them
very carefully.
2. Scenario
UNITED NATIONS SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS
https://sdgs.un.org/goals

You are a team of technology consultants, specialising in Information Systems, at a consulting
firm with a loyal base of medium to large international companies as clients. During the recent
partner’s meeting, one of the items discussed was the growing interest to participate in the
United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals.
3
Your team is tasked to investigate the role of technology including technology options that the
firm’s existing clients could perhaps adopt if they wish to consider SDG projects.
Requirements:
1. The organisation must either be a medium to large business
2. Must be operate internationally (must have an office in more than 1 country)
3. Website must have an English version
4. The organisation must have operated for at least 10 years.
Learning Outcomes Addressed:
Program Learning
Outcomes
Course Learning Outcomes
1 Knowledge Discuss IS components, their use, and their importance to
business.
2 Critical thinking and
problem solving
Illustrate how organisations could use IS to improve
organisational / managerial efficiency & effectiveness.
Propose how an organisation could use information systems
and technology (IS/IT) to compete in a global marketplace.
3a Written and oral
communication
Communicate an argument in oral and written form
4 Teamwork Work collaboratively to complete a task

3. Requirements

Prepare a proposal with the following structure:
1. The Client: Introduce the organisation (ie one of your firm’s existing clients) that you
have chosen for the project. For this section, describe and discuss the organisation’s
internal and external environment. In your discussion, clearly demonstrate your
understanding of the organisation’s external environment using Porter’s Five Forces
analysis and the organsiation’s internal environment using Osterwalder’s Business
Model Canvas. (15%)

2. SDG and Technology selection: Analyse and discuss how your chosen organisation
could use information systems to contribute to 1 of the 17 United Nations Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs). The goal for this section is to (a) select an SDG goal that
you think needs the critical attention of the organisation you have chosen and explain
why it should be the priority and (b) analyse and provide your understanding of the role
of IS/IT in the contribution of achieving the selected SDG goal. For this section you
must be specific about what technologies or combination of technologies enable the
contribution towards the goal. (20%)
4

3. Innovative Project Description: Based on your discussions in part 1 & 2 above,
propose a specific IS/IT innovation project.

For this part, and based on your research and analysis in Part 1& 2, you should clearly
discuss (i) what the IS project is and what is required (hint: 5 components of IS) (ii) the
outcomes and benefits are, should the organisation agree to adopt your IS/IT
innovation (iii) the key challenges the organisation might face in implementing this
project. For this section, the innovation you are proposing must NOT be something the
organisation already has in place. (30%)

It is important that you provide the partners with information that is customised for the chosen
client rather than producing material that reads like a generic brochure. You should
demonstrate that you understand the organisation’s context and priorities as well as articulate
any assumptions that you make about the organisation (if necessary). You should make sure
that you provide adequate explanations to back up your recommendations.
You are required to carefully consider the points that you wish to make in this report. A ‘brain
dump’ of all you know is of little value. You should consider using tables and figures to
present material whenever suitable as they may help in structuring your argument.
In order to prepare your assignment, you have to undertake research. However, you should
ensure that you use the information gathered to illustrate your argument; you should not
simply copy or describe your research findings.
Marks are also available for the following:
Oral Presentation
4. A seven minute pitch to your firm’s partners outlining your key findings and how you
arrived at such conclusion. The pitch will be delivered in your tutorial class on week
10. (20%).

Project Management
5. Trello. Effective and consistent use of Trello as a project management tool both
towards the planning stage (Project Plan) and execution of of project (research &
written work) (10%)
Project Plan (How you plan to complete this group assignment)– to be outlined
on Team Trello board by Week 4 Friday 11 March 5pm
 Project description:
o Outlines your choice of organisation, SDG and your main ideas about the
innovation project. It does not have to be a detailed description of the IS project
but discusses from a high level what your team is attempting to solve.
Demosntrate that your chosen organisation meets the requirements.
 Basic project schedule:
o This section requires you to outline the steps and schedule your team will
undertake to complete your proposal in the next 5 weeks. This may be
presented in a table format.
5
 Communication and Collaboration methods:
o Discuss how your team plans to collaborate (tools, standards or commitment)
 Roles & responsibilities of your team members:
o This section defines how your team decides to break down the roles/task
assignments. This may be presented in a table format

Proposal presentation (written) and Referencing
6. Effective and coherent presentation of information in a format suitable for a consulting
report. Adherence to UNSWBS presentation standards including Harvard referencing
and the use of acceptable research materials (5%).
4. Submission Details
Using Moodle Turnitin, each GROUP should submit a single MS WORD document (no other
formats such as PDF allowed – 5 mark penalty applies) that includes:
(i) A fully completed and signed (by all group members) cover page (available on
Moodle).

(ii) The business report. The main body of the reports is expected to be maximum of
3,500 words (+/- 10% is accepted). Cover/Title page, table of contents, reference

included in the word count limit.

(iv) A full set of references used to prepare the report (excluded from the word count).

(v) Indicate the number of words on the document.

Please note that ONE submission per group is required. Multiple submissions from the same
group will be considered an invalid submission. A mark of zero will be awarded for
assignments submitted by individuals or by groups larger than five.
If you have any questions about interpreting the assignment and its requirements, please
make use of either the LiC’s or group assignment consultation sessions. To avoid
confusion and misunderstanding, we will not be answering such questions about the
assignment over email.
The originality of the submission will be checked using Turnitin. Please check the originality
report generated by Turnitin during the submission process. All members of the group should
satisfy themselves as to the originality of the full assignment prior to final submission. It is the
responsibility of the person submitting the assignment to provide other group members with a
copy of the originality report generated by Turnitin during the submission process. Please note
that Turnitin will only generate an originality report ONCE every 24 hours. So if you submit
your file and override your original file in a space of less than 24 hours, you will not obtain an
update on your originality score for the new file.

The University regards plagiarism as a form of academic misconduct, and has very strict rules
regarding plagiarism. For UNSW policies, penalties, and information to help you avoid
plagiarism see: http://student.unsw.edu.au/plagiarism as well as the guidelines in the online
ELISE tutorials for all new UNSW students: http://subjectguides.library.unsw.edu.au/elise
Submission of the assignment must be accompanied by a signed cover page provided on
Moodle. All members of the groups must sign the cover page. Signatures on the cover
page must match the ones you signed for your workshop attendance/ student ID. Groups with
missing cover page will be given an automatic penalty of 10% of the maximum marks available
for the assignment. Individual student, whose signature is missing on the cover page, will
obtain an automatic penalty of 10% of the maximum marks available for the assignment. The
maximum marks for this assignment is 100 marks and hence the penalty is a flat 10 marks
deduction from the score you obtained for the assignment.
Peer assessment (submitted separately to your tutor): Each individual student should
provide their tutor with a completed and signed peer assessment sheet (available on
Moodle). The peer assessment sheet should be provided to your tutor no later than
Monday 11 April, 2022, 5pm.
Unequal contribution: If you wish to claim for unequal contribution, you must justify your
claim with evidence. We only accept Trello, Teams chat and official UNSW email
communication as evidence of work. Personal emails, social media messengers & chat,
facebook are not acceptable forms of evidences. For the claim to be valid, provide evidence
that work (outside the project plan) was started on March 21, 2022 at the latest. Any project
that was started after such date by default means the project is planned poorly and is no longer
valid for unequal contribution claim (ie. If all members agree to start late then the team accepts
the risks associated with the late start). Therefore, if you are experiencing issues with your
team member it is important to send an official acceptable communication as evidence
regardless if your group member does not check ore reply to official unsw emails.
You are advised to keep a copy of each submission. In line with school policy, the late
submission of assignments carries a penalty of 10% of the maximum marks for that
assignment per day of lateness (including weekends and public holidays), unless an
extension of time has been granted. For example, if you are late by 2 days, you will receive a
20 marks deduction from the score you obtained for the assignment.
Applications for an extension of time should be made to the online special consideration unit
within 3 working days of the submission date. You will be required to substantiate your
application with appropriate documentary evidence such as medical certificates, accident
reports etc. Please note that work commitments and computer failures are usually considered
insufficient grounds for an extension.
5. Marking Criteria
The aim of the assignment is to get you to consider the material that you have covered in the
course in light of the scenario described in the assignment. The assignment requires you to
illustrate your understanding of the course material by making a well-reasoned argument. The
report should therefore be analytical rather than descriptive, and should explain the reasoning
behind the argument made. Marks will be awarded for applying course material rather than
reproducing it.
The report should have a professional layout and be well presented. It should read like a well-
justified consultant report suitable for a business audience rather than an essay.
General Grade expectations are as follows:
7
Fail: Either the material does not address the question/requirement or is completely
unsuitable.
Pass: Answer covers the topic but largely describes/reproduces material.
Credit: Answer identifies a potentially relevant solution, but there is little justification of its
suitability in the context of the scenario in the assignment and/or the analysis is limited.
Distinction: A well-articulated case is made for the proposed innovation. The suitability of the
proposed innovation is justified in light of reasonable alternatives. The answer reads like a
well-justified report and illustrates synthesis (e.g. a self derived table or figure) and evaluation
(e.g. consequences /recommendations) of the material in light of the case scenario.
High Distinction: A well-articulated case is made for the proposed innovation. The suitability
of the innovation is well justified in light of reasonable alternatives. The answer reads like a
well-justified report and illustrates synthesis (e.g. a self-derived table or figure) and evaluation
(e.g. consequences /recommendations) of the material in light of the case scenario. It also
illustrates that you understand some alternatives or counter arguments to the ones that you
have recommended, and can briefly illustrate why the argument that you have proposed is
more valid than that of the alternative.
