CSE 472 In-Class Exam
CSE 472

We will have an in-class examination on Wednesday, Apr 13, 2022. This document
details the expectations for that exam.

There will be 10 questions on the exam on the topics listed below.

Modeling:

1. Parameterized model. For instance, if we are given a shape determined by a few
parameters, we will construct a triangle mesh for it. First, describe the vertex list
using the parameters, and then the face list (3 vertex indices per face).

2. Geometric transformation. For example, you may be asked to create appropriate
transformation matrices for a virtual robotic arm, and calculate the coordinates of
a specific point on that arm. You will be expected to be able to construct an
appropriate 4x4 matrix.

3. Camera. You may be asked how to construct the rotation matrix for the camera.

4. Normal. Compute the normal of a face or a vertex in a triangle mesh.

5. Spatial data structure. For instance, how to construct a BSP tree.

Rendering:

6. Projection. Drawing some types of parallel projection for a given simple object
and/or indicate the edge lengths and/or angles necessary for some projections.

7. Colors. Converting a color from one model to another (e.g., RGB, CMYK, HSV
& HSL).

8. Illumination. For example, translating the Phong illumination (lighting) model
into GLSL, given the formula and basic explanation of usage in GLSL needed.


9. Rasterization. For instance, calculate a particular point's texture coordinates or
color inside a triangle.

10. Raytracing. For instance, construct the ray for the specular reflection of other
surfaces.
