FINAL EXAM INFORMATION TO STUDENTS
STAT4038/6038
Date and time:
Thursday 09/06/2022, start time 6:00pm (Canberra time). Reading time: 30 mins, Writing time: 180
mins. Submit your exam before 9:30pm (Canberra time).
The exam paper will be available on the Wattle homepage (section Assessment, Task 4: Final
Examination) at 6:00pm on 9th June. If you cannot see the exam by 6:00pm, please email me
immediately and I will email the exam to you.
Duration:
210 minutes. You must submit your completed exam no later than 9:30pm Canberra time on 9th
June. Any exams submitted (including email submissions) after 9:30pm (Canberra time) will receive a
mark of zero. (Important: the Turnitin submission page will be closed by 9:30pm, and any email
submissions received after 9:30pm will not be accepted!)
You will have 3.5 hours, rather than the usual 3 hours. You are allowed to write your exam from
reading time. The additional 0.5 hour is intended to give you sufficient time to scan, combine and
submit your solutions via the exam submission tab on Wattle, prior to the end of the 3-hour
deadline. Please note, the exam is set to be completed within 3 hours, giving you ample time to
prepare your answers for submission.
It is the responsibility of the student to make sure that the technology being used to complete and
submit the exam is operational for the entire duration of the exam. No late submissions will be
accepted.
Exam structure and permitted materials:
The exam paper will consist of 7 questions that require written solutions. All working out will need to
be included with your solutions.
Each question is of unequal value and may contain multiple parts.
Total mark of this exam is 120.
Because you are sitting the exam away from campus and because the exam is not actively
invigilated, this exam is open book.
HOWEVER, you are not permitted to contact and collaborate with other students or persons during
the exam. You will be required to sign (or name stamp) a declaration form and submit the form with
your completed exam. This form will be available on the Wattle page prior to the exam for you to
complete and add to your exam submission.
Preparing your exam for submission:
Please ensure you include your student number on every page of your written answers.
Once you complete your exam, you will need to scan/photograph your written pages. The software
package ‘Microsoft Office Lens’ is a very useful tool for scanning and combining pages together for
emailing. A document has been placed on the Wattle site with information on how to use this
software. Note that the instructions on using Microsoft Office Lens include instructions on how to
upload your scanned files to OneDrive (in pdf or other forms).
My preferred format is either PDF or JPEG, so please use the PDF and/or gallery options for saving
your exam paper. Please note the scanned document can be no larger than 20MB.
Please ensure you save the exam with the name of the file being your student number followed by
the course code (e.g. u1234567 STAT4038).
You are welcome to use other software or methods to scan and combine your exam papers if you
wish, but please ensure you have practiced using these prior to the exam and know they will work.
Please be aware of the quality of your exam file when you are preparing the submission and that the
text on each scanned page is legible. As such, please closely check your submission before you
submit it. Subsequent submissions or attempts to submit additional solutions during or after the
exam will not be marked.
Please trial using Microsoft Office Lens before the exam. This can be as simple as scanning a few
pages of your notes, and emailing the document to yourself to ensure you are able to use the
software and that the final submission is legible.
Exam submission:
Because there is always a risk of technology failure, a number of methods will be available for
submitting your exam:
1. Your primary way of submitting the exam is via Wattle Turnitin using the Final Exam submission
link.
2. If you are unable to upload your solution, please email the solutions to me at
le.chang@anu.edu.au Please only email me if you are unable to upload the exam.
Remember to save your exam answers with the name of the file being your student number
followed by the course code (e.g. u1234567 STAT4038).
You should use method 1 first, but if you encounter problems, then please try option 2.
