ECOS2004
Information about the final exam, 2022
The final exam for the course will be conducted online through a dedicated exam site which will be
made available by the Exams Office. You should by now have received official notification of the time
and date of your exam.
Exam instructions
The following instructions will appear on the official exam site.
***
This is an open-book exam with no supervision. Open-book exams do not permit the use of third
party communication or collaboration apps or websites. Access to any such app or website is
strictly prohibited during your exam and is a serious academic integrity breach.
Date of exam: 7/6/2022
Start: 09:00 (Sydney Australia time)
Duration: 2 hours and 40 minutes (160 minutes). This includes:
• 10 minutes of reading time, but you can start writing whenever you are ready– you are
strongly encouraged to use this time to carefully plan and structure your response before
you start writing.
• 30 minutes of upload time to allow you to upload your files as per your exam instructions.
Do NOT treat this as extra writing time. The upload time must be used solely to save and
upload your files correctly as per the exam instructions. Manage your time carefully. Check
that you have saved and named your file correctly and uploaded the correct file. If your time
runs out while you are uploading this is not considered a technical issue.
Quiz buffer time: You will be allowed a buffer time of 15 minutes in case you experience any
technical issues starting your exam. This means that you have 15 minutes to begin the exam and still
get the full time allowed to complete the exam. If you are unable to start your exam within that
buffer time, you should apply for special consideration. Buffer time does NOT mean you have extra
time to complete your exam.
Please keep track of your time. Your quiz timer may not update if you have an internet connection
issue. Use the time on your computer so that you always know how much time you have left. Only
questions completed within the exam time will be marked.
If you have an academic adjustment, it has been added automatically. Visit the understanding your
academic adjustments page in the Taking online exams help site for more information.
If you encounter technical difficulties during the exam that you cannot fix, email
canvas.tests@sydney.edu.au immediately.
Format: This exam is a Quiz and Assignment upload with 15 questions (Part 1) and 4 extended
response questions (Part 2). All the questions are included in the Quiz; Part 2 requires that you type
your answers and upload as one file. You should attempt all questions and follow the instructions for

Advice on exam preparation and coverage of topics
In addition to the above official instructions, I am providing the following advice to assist you in your
exam preparations.
Topics from all parts of the course can potentially be covered in any part of the exam.
Part 1 of the exam (question 1 - 15) is similar in format to the Midsem1 exam that you did earlier in
the semester. Hence the questions and solutions that were published for that exam, as well as the
past paper and answers that were also published, will provide useful practice material for this part of
the final exam.
In preparing for the multi-part calculations (questions 13 – 15) you will find it helpful to revise the
calculation-type questions from the weekly tutorial exercises up to and including week 13.
Part 2 of the exam is similar in format to the Midsem2 exam. You can find ample practice questions
of this type, along with model answers, from the Midsem2 exam answer guide and from the range of
discussion-type questions and answers in the weekly tutorial exercises. The week 13 tutorial also
contains a set of questions aimed at assisting your revision of possible extended response topics for
the course as a whole.
