CASE: Coco-Cola in India
The case is available in Canvas assignment area
Case overview: The chosen case describes the cultural differences in terms of what impact on Coco-Cola’s
global expansion to India. The topics relevant to this case include cross-cultural values and dimensions and their
practical implications for cross-cultural management.
Objectives: The purpose of this assignment is to assess students’ ability to identify the cultural values of
different cultures and their impact on international business performance. The students should apply this
knowledge from the perspective of a consultant, advising the Coca-Cola company how they could do to mitigate
some of the cross-cultural problems and enhance business performance.
Specific Tasks: Using GLOBE Study’s cultural dimensions as a point of reference, identify and discuss the
cultural similarities and differences between USA and India illustrated in the case. Using GLOBE Study’s cultural
dimensions as a point of reference, critically analyse how cultural similarities and differences could affect Coca-
Cola’s global expansion to India. Please give examples to support your analysis. As consultants, your analysis
should both explain the major similarities, differences and provide insights into what changes Coca-Cola should
make to obtain more soft drink market in India from the cultural perspective.
Advice: It is important that you support your analysis and recommendations with theories and concepts covered
in the course and give examples to support your analysis and recommendations that would improve cross-
cultural management.
Formatting, submission and word count: Size 12 fonts and 1.5 line spacing. You are required to submit this
assignment electronically through Turnitin. No hardcopies are required. The word count of your case study
analysis should be 2000 words. Word penalty will be applied 10% above or under word limit.
Referencing style: APA style is required. The “Gold Guide” is designed to assist you to understand and meet
academic requirements, by summarising important points and providing website links. It gives you essential
information on the basics of academic writing and critical thinking, essay writing, referencing, business reports,
presentations and teamwork. The referencing style in the “Gold Guide” is APA style which is the Faculty standard
for Business courses.
Resources: Students must support their findings by using refereed scholarly journals. An extensive reading list
is provided for this course and students are encouraged to use this as well as a minimum of 7 scholarly journal
articles for the assignment.
