1. What are the main differences you notice between the Whangapaoa (alkali
chloride) hot spring and the Lower Te Kopia (acid sulphate) hot spring in look and
temperature?

differences are present?

3. What differences do you notice between the microbial mats in the main discharge
channel of the Whangapaoa hot spring in the wet season and the secondary
discharge channel in the dry season? (Hint: Consider what might happen with the
microbial communities when the dry channel becomes wet again).
