Digital Business Services
Term Three 2021-22
WARWICK BUSINESS SCHOOL

90% Individual Assignment

3000 words:
This is a strict limit not a guideline: any piece submitted with more words than the limit
will result in the excess not being marked

Question
Propose a new digital service for a real-world organization (3000 words).

In doing so,

1. Select and introduce a real-world organization of your choice. Briefly reflect on the
business-to-consumer (B2C) services the organization currently offers.
2. Discuss a new digital service that could be offered by this organization. This can be via a
digital transformation of an existing service, or offering a digital service that would be
new to this organization. Carefully justify the need for and added value of this new digital
service.
3. Explain how this new digital service leverages one (or more) of the technologies
discussed in the module (e.g., AI, multi-sided platforms, APIs). Demonstrate an adequate
understanding of these technologies.
4. Discuss the key steps in deploying this digital service by referring to a relevant
implementation lifecycle model discussed in the module.
5. 5. Critically discuss the risks involved with offering this digital service. Develop and justify
mitigations for the top two risks.

Equal weight is given to all five parts. Follow the 5 points above as the structure of your
submission. All references, including references to the literature and online sources, should
appear at the end (not as footnotes) and follow the Harvard style.

Assessment Criteria
To succeed in this assessment, you need to:

Demonstrate a knowledge of the role of specific digital technologies in transforming the services
offered by organizations and the key life-cycle stages involved in such transformations by
applying these concepts to the particular case of a chosen real-world business (comprehension).

Present evidence and reasonable arguments for justifying why the specific digital technology
being discussed will enable the proposed digital service in a way that will benefit the chosen
business (analysis).

Logically question the current way in which the chosen business offers services before proposing
an original and new way of running a digital service; identify key weaknesses and risks involved
with implementing the proposed digital service and reflecting on how these risks could be
mitigated (critical evaluation)

Present a clear (e.g., readable, logically coherent and consistent), structured (i.e., clearly
corresponding to the 5 points in the question), and convincing (e.g., citing relevant sources)
digital service proposal (academic writing).

academic practice and suspected plagiarism very seriously. You can find information on these matters on
my.wbs, in your student handbook and on the University's library web pages here.

The University's Regulation 11 clarifies that '…'cheating' means an attempt to benefit oneself or another by
deceit or fraud. This includes reproducing one's own work…' It is important to note that it is not permissible to
re-use work which has already been submitted by you for credit either at WBS or at another institution (unless
you have been explicitly told that you can do so). This is considered self-plagiarism and could result in
significant mark reductions.

Upon submission of assignments, students will be asked to agree to one of the following declarations:

Individual work submissions:

By agreeing to these declarations (when the message pops up on submission) you are acknowledging that you
have understood the rules about plagiarism and self-plagiarism and have taken all possible steps to ensure
that your work complies with the requirements of WBS and the University.

You should only indicate your agreement with the relevant statement, once you have satisfied yourself that
you have fully understood its implications. If you are in any doubt, you must consult with the Module
Organiser or Named Internal Examiner of the relevant module, because, once you have indicated your
agreement, it will not be possible to later claim that you were unaware of these requirements in the event
that your work is subsequently found to be problematic in respect to suspected plagiarism or self-
plagiarism.
