INSTRUCTIONS – READ FIRST
• Type of assessment: Individual
• Weighting: 5%
• Due: 19 August 2021 @ 1700hrs (AEST)
• Time: approximately 90 minutes to complete the task
• Number of attempts: 1
• The lab in Week 4 has been allocated for you to complete the assessment task. It is recommended
that this task is to be completed after the week 4 lecture (or watching the recording).
• You are to submit a single PDF file with the four models from ‘Task One’ and your response to
‘Task Two’ and the Archi file from ‘Task One’.

TASK ONE –ARCHIMATE MOTIVATION & STRATEGY MODELS (60 MARKS)
Lucida Media is an Australian traditional media company focusing on print magazines, located in
Wollongong, Australia. Its profitability has plateaued in recent years with the advent of new digital media
companies and social media. The board of directors has tasked the C-level suite with developing a new
vision for the company. Your task is to develop four (4) ArchiMate Motivation and Strategy models.

MODEL ONE - STAKEHOLDER, DRIVER, AND ASSESSMENT (20 MARKS)
Stakeholders in the Motivation Model are:
• Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
• Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
• Chief Operations Officer (COO)
• Chief Information Officer (CIO)

The CEO is focused on all the key drivers of “Digital Uplift”, “Media Circulation” and “Profitability”. At
the same time, the CFO is only concerned with the “Profitability” driver, the COO is only involved with the
“Media Circulation” driver and the CIO is only concerned with the “Digital Uplift” driver. The
“Profitability” driver is decomposed by two further drivers’ “Sales Revenue” and “Production Costs”.
Several assessments have been made about each of the drivers and are associated with these drivers. For the
media circulation, the assessment is that this has been declining with an additional assessment that
competitors are supplementing print with digital offerings. With regards to sales revenue, this is also
reducing along with the profitability of the company. While profitability has declined, the associated costs of
gaining new customers for traditional print media (magazines) has increased. There has also been an
assessment that the current technologies used by Lucida Media are outdated.
From the assessment, driver associations have also been found – the declining media circulation results in
declining revenue, resulting in decreasing profitability. Meanwhile, the increase in the cost of gaining new
customers also impacts the company’s profitability.

2 | LAB ASSESSMENT 1

MODEL TWO - GOAL, OUTCOME, PRINCIPLE, REQUIREMENT, AND CONSTRAINT (20 MARKS)
Model Two is based on our assessment from Model One that competitors are supplementing print with
digital offerings. We, at Lucida Media, have identified the goal of ‘Improve Profitability of our Product
Offering’ this will be realised by the outcome of having a 20% increase in our profit next financial year.
Based on the primary outcome for this goal, several sub-outcomes have also been identified of increasing our
revenue by 30% (which is positive), reducing our customer acquisition cost by 10% (another positive
outcome). However, there will be a negative outcome of increasing information systems expenditure by
20%.

To achieve these outcomes several principles of intent have been defined. Including:
1. Customers to have additional content outside of print via digital offerings
2. Serve customers 24/7
3. Respond to the changing needs of customers
4. Respond to customers changing expectations quickly
You will need to identify how these principles link to the outcomes.

Requirements related to the goal of ‘Improve Profitability of our Product Offering’ includes that the services
related to the digital offerings run on all standard customer platforms and can be accessed via mobile
technologies (serving principles 1 & 2). One constraint is that the company has identified that they will be
implementing a cross-platform framework to develop future systems (serving principles 3 & 4).

MODEL THREE- MEANING AND VALUE (10 MARKS)
Sending push notifications has a value of “Cost Efficiency” for the stakeholder “Lucida Media”, and a value
of “Being Informed” for the stakeholder “Customer”. Different meanings can be assigned to the different
specific types of notification messages. A “Confirmation of Purchase” has the meaning “Digital Magazine
subscription has been received” and a “Ready for Download” has the meaning “A new issue of the Digital
Magazine is ready to download”.

MODEL FOUR – STRUCTURE (10 MARKS)
When considering our goal of ‘Improve Profitability of our Product Offering’ and Model 2 that was just
developed, we need to consider the structure. For our company to be able to serve customers 24/7 and to
have our new digital offerings, a simple course of action is to employ a cloud platform for our IT services;
this would allow us to realise our IT Management & Operations capability by having our IT resources
geographically located in the cloud and our human resources (IT staff) located in our Wollongong
Headquarters.

TASK TWO – ANALYSIS AND REFLECTION (40 MARKS)
In Task One, you developed three different models. Explain the relationship between these four models and
how developing these models allows an Enterprise Architect to have a clearer picture of the organisation.
NOTE: Your answer should be 200 – 250 words in length.
