Supplementary Information : Preparing Your Pitch Presentation


(1) Pre-recorded Pitch Presentation and Presentation Slide Submissions:

• Each group is required to submit their presentation slides with embedded voice
recording on the due date of their presentation slides, into the appropriate Canvas
portal.
• The slides will be an exact copy of the slides used for the pre-recorded presentation.
• It is very important that the presentation slides are referenced appropriately using APA-
7. The document is submitted via Turnitin, and is considered a piece of academic work.

(2) Pre-recorded Pitch Style Presentation

• Each group will prepare their pitch presentation and pre-record their verbal delivery.
This has been determined as best practice for a group presentation in a virtual and online
learning environment, and will be our standard practice whilst we teach in both on
campus and on-line modes. Importantly it will reduce the potential stress and
technology issues that might arise presenting live.
• Any number of group members may participate in the verbal recording. All of the
members or one of the members. This can be determined by each group.
• Remember that the presentation time limit is five (5) minutes, and five (5) slides.
• It will be important that the verbal recording is delivered clearly and slowly so that the
audience can hear the narrative and link it to the slide on the screen at the time. It is
recommended that groups practice their delivery before submitting a final recording.
• Each group may choose any technology solution for the slides and verbal presentation
that can be uploaded to Canvas
• Technology issues encountered on the day of the presentation will not negatively impact
any group or any groups marks. If a problem occurs the Unit of Study Co-ordinator will
make contact with the group to reach a resolution.
(3) What is a Pitch?
A ‘pitch’ in the business environment has come to mean a short, sharp, effective presentation
delivered in order to obtain approval/funds/investment. You may be familiar with pop culture
shows like Shark Tank or Dragon’s Den where the hosts select the best business pitches and ideas
to progress to funding opportunities.
For this submission we do not require a financial assessment of the technology you have chosen
as we are not progressing to fund the technology. Rather you need to consider your audience –
Director of Human Capital, and address the task questions.

The notion of pitch is being used to offer groups an understanding of the brief and concise nature
of the presentation required.
The following websites may assist you to structure or focus your thoughts. There are many
resources available to this end and these are offered for your review. They are not compulsory
and do not indicate any preference from the teaching team on how your presentation should
‘look. You are encouraged to be creative and independent in your approach.

Groups are encouraged to think ‘outside the box’ when preparing their materials. You may want
to record slide deck with information accompanied by role plays or videos.
There are two key factors to take into account: the first is context. What is happening in the area
of the topic you have been allocated? And secondly is the spirit of the motion. The topics were
chosen because of their relevance in finance and accounting information systems, and therefore
staying focussed on this perspective will be essential.
Manner:
How you say something in a debate is just as important as what you say. You are trying to
convince your audience that your perspective is the right one! So, try to avoid just reading from a
script, be creative, use eye contact, pauses in your speech and varying volume and tone.

Will be released when all four requirements are submitted.
