Sample exam
• Kelly Wang just obtained her bachelor’s degree in Business Commerce
from the University of Melbourne. She applied for M.B.A. programs and
was successfully admitted into New York University’s Stern School of
Business. She is considering whether she should defer her enrollment if
the school continues to offer online rather than in-person classes. Please
analyze whether she should defer her enrollment.
• The NYU Stern School of Business has three teaching modes in its M.B.A.
classes: (a) in-person, (b) online, (c) hybrid. Describe the differences in

Exam Tactics
General
Before the exam, plan your time.
Concentrate and be efficient in answering the
questions during the exam!
Biggest risk: Spending too much time on one
question
Read the entire question to understand all
requirements.
The exam questions test what we have discussed
in class. Stay on topic.
Pay close attention to what is required. For
example, whether calculations are required.
13
MCQs
Read the question and the “available answers” to
answer the question efficiently.
CRQs
Be specific using the case information. Generic
responses will be discounted.
Be brief and to the point: It’s ok to use bullet points
Graders are looking to give you points, not take
them away: Make it as easy as possible for graders
to give you points!
It is okay to spend several minutes organizing your
thoughts before you type in the provided box.
Manage Anxiety
Everybody gets nervous about exams!
• Try to channel your nervous energy in a positive way
• Focus on doing your best and what you remember most
• If you forget how to do something, move on! If you have
time left, you can return to the question later.
• Effective study and preparation is the best approach to
alleviate anxiety and enhance self-confidence on exam
day.
• Checking the lecture notes or textbook during the exam
may can create time pressure and intensify your anxiety.
14
A student’s study trip

your family and friends

• As you progress, continually test
yourself on areas completed

POTENTIAL TECHNICAL DISRUPTION
• In the event of major technical disruptions preventing an entire student cohort from
completing/submitting their exam, appropriate alternative examination arrangements
will be made which may include rescheduling the examination.
• In the event when you have a minor technical disruption, such as blackout or internet
disconnection for a couple of minutes, we would encourage you to log back in and
resume the exam. Unfortunately, the time will keep ticking and we won’t be able to
extend your time right on the spot.
• In the event when you have an enduring technical disruption which substantial time is
lost, we would suggest you record every piece of evidence and apply for special
consideration subsequently.
